Witch Queen was fun but not worth 30$
Just an opinion here. With season passes being a thing, and the incredibly short storyline that of WQ, I feel like it should be price pointed more like 15-20$ usd.

Before you argue and start whiteknighting for higher prices, hear me out.

As someone who has played many many MANY games over the MANY years I feel like this is a far more fair price point, considering that you will (if you begin to like this game) continue buying each new DLC they plan to bring over the next few years, while someone who decided that 30+$ was too much, isn't going to buy a single thing.. as they will just move on and not play the game in the first place..

So you cut 10$ off the price, and let's say for argument's sake, you have 1/3 MORE people start to play the game as a result, who are all happy and feel like they got their money's worth.. So you have a games as service model where the actual hope is that you get long-term players who want to continue playing year after year vs a model where your hope is to get a single sale from each player, and then hoping more more new sales in the future...

They are not the same model by any means, and only one of those two models benefits exponentially from increasing retention.

By making the price actually worth what people are getting, and likely increasing overall playerbase, you then have invested players who are going to drop 20$ each and every time you drop a new DLC, AND likely going to get the season pass as well since they are now invested in the game... So you may lose out on 10$ now in order to make 40, 60 or even 80$ more per player in the future. If that player bails at the sight of 30$ dlc or after they realize the 30$ was more than what they got in return,.. you just cut off nose to save face by pinching ten dollars now and lost up to 80$ in the future.

Just my thoughts as I am bored at the moment and this was bothering me for some reason.

As a game dev myself I can't help but feel like Bungie is just making a bad decision here in favor of short term gains.

Witch Queen launched with over one million preorders and plenty of positive feedback. They're improving every year etc... I'm proud of the team at Bungie and nobody is perfect. Worth the $30 in my personal opinion and can't wait for the year(s) ahead.

So what if the game really is $20, but the server rent is $10 and the maintenance and game support is $10?

Unlike a single player game, this one has to account for the additional server work, ongoing ticket solving, and pay their own share to the network providers.

Games are business first ( I wish it was passion first too and I am sure many game devs who work on online games wish that too), gotta feel like whatever they are investing into is worth it.

I think people have a fair point about stuff like the cosmetic shop, but if that part of the game becomes too important for the income, then eventually we all get ugly armor, we have pretty good looking armor, and cosmetic feels optional.

Would I like to pay less?, sure. Then again Destiny 2 is actually one of the few games in my library that has serious play hours to it. Lots of that is grinding no doubt, well life is not fair lol.

Edit: there is also a cost on being on Steam (or any marketplace), in addition to having to calculate for players that far exceed normal server quota/player, logged in all day.

I thought it was clear that Bungie makes content for the people that buy the game every year. I get what you're saying that a lower price point could bring more people in but Bungie isn't making it for those people.

As for the short campaign, did you try legendary campaign and did you fully explore the throne world? I can understand the campaign only being like 4 hours if you're only in it for the campaign and play it on easy difficulty but just like every other Destiny 2 expansion there is so much more than just the campaign.

There is no way you have done everything there is to do in the Witch Queen expansion. The "Main" campaign is a tiny fraction of what there is to do, some of it is even time gated so we know you didn't do that stuff :steamhappy:

I am ok with it.
Money spent on it against time spent on it puts me in profit. Job done. :stein:

i just buy the 10 buck current "season" and dont bother with WQ until it goes on sale. You get tons of content for 10 bucks for 90 days. There's no point in paying full price for WQ unless you really want to (which is fine). And it is worth pointing out that you have to buy the season anyway along with WQ to get all of the current content which is not ideal for the consumer. YMMV

I wish Bungie would add matchmaking to all activities regardless of difficulty, after paying for Forsaken and it getting vaulted feels bad giving Bungie more money for content I can only play for how long?

did you do legendary campaign?

The "world events" are definitely weaker compared to some of the other stuff they've done in the past. There's really no reason to stay in the Throne World after the gated quests are done. Then throwing in an extra cost "Season Pass" the same time that you've paid for a full standard expansion just leaves a bad taste in the mouth. And the well advertised crafting system still needs work since it takes forever to even get a pattern and decent perks.

I guess you're mostly paying for voice actors. Debra Wilson has a ton of lines even after the story chapter is over. And Fynch never shuts up.

spend 150 AUD on the witch queen deluxe + 30th back in oct, and wont have to spend a cent on the game for 18 months thanks to having passes included. id say just buying the DLC and not deluxe isnt worth it

If they thought they would make more money by charging 20 money instead of 30 money they would do that. Cost and value don´t determine pricing in a free market system , the willingness of people to pay what is asked does.

I don't get the point of your "argument"

Why is it a bad thing to pay for 1.5 years of enjoyment and then play again for another year?
Are you a communist or why do you dislike playing for new content which has to be created?
Pocahawtness Mar 30, 2022 @ 1:08am
I don't really understand why people post their "opinion" about value. We have no idea what the economics of Destiny are. It costs a huge amount of money to develop and support games, and to justify that you must have a certain number of people buying in to the game. Without knowing all the details we can't begin to say whether something is good value or not. All we can do is say whether we like paying that much or not, and mostly, in the case of gamers, the answer is "not". They object to anything that costs money. Look, just buy it, or don't, but I really don't see the point in going on about it!!
