We thought the traveller was dead until it awoke briefly to fry Ghaul. We don't know if its capable of doing anything on its own right now. I think we'll learn a bit more about the traveller and the pyramid ships in the upcoming expansions.

Not sure why the Traveler - a living thing - having a gender is such a wild idea. She's been referred to as female since D1.

I think the concept of genders is odd for machines.

In a similiar way, if a human was living among natural numbers where the concept of "being prime" exists it would be odd to tell them the human was prime.

well, we're still able to use the light, so why should we depend on the traveler for everything? if my interpretation for one of the veil's message is right, then i partially agree with the veil if we need to exit this ''eggshell'' that the traveler is, and stop expecting the traveler to solve every paracausal problem that humanity can't solve. besides, it's not like the traveler is doing nothing, since it is probably being sabotaged by shaxx's ahamkara skull or the possible ''predator'' that is probably in the city

Sex gender is irrelevant, its called an identity. I mean I'm not going to call the traveler he/she as Bungie has only said they/their, but for things that have been identified then why not? There are clearly exos that identify as male/female and even the post master in the tower that has all your loot waiting is referred to as "she" with a usually feminine name of Kati. I'm not being a sjw here but if Bungie designs a character to clearly be identified with he or she then that's good enough for me.

Do remember that the Darkness still wants to extinguish humanity as a whole because its not strong enough.
