PSA: Information on the Icefall Mantle before you go through trying to farm for it.

Hello Titans! I've recently picked up the Icefall Mantle and you may look at it and say "Slowness in trade for my shield? Why that sounds (great/lame)" and it really is! Though there are some things you may want to know before farming:

-By "you are slowed" this actually does not mean you simply walk/sprint slower. Yes, that, but you in fact cannot sprint or use your areal movement ability at all. No catapult jumps or shoulder charges or slides or any of that, you are Ground Bound my friend, so be prepared.

-The shield, actually is very very strong!, at 100 HP that means the shield can be around half your normal health in actual shielding which is quite good!

-No, you cannot use "class ability regeneration" effects to have more uptime on the shield. It says that while the overshield is active that you do not regain your class ability, this means that until that blue bar is gone then you won't be getting anything back. However this actually functions by constantly draining your class ability energy not by simply stopping it, this means if you use perpetuation for instance it will simply immediately drain that energy that was refunded so the shield has a minimum of a 15 second cooldown at 100 resilience.

-You do not get the shield in your super, if you have the shield active and you cast your super the effect simply goes away and it becomes disabled during your super, this is an up and down as it means you won't be nearly unkillable but having a roaming melee super (like pretty much all titan's supers are) and not being able to sprint or glide would kinda suck anyway so don't feel too bad about it. It would be kinda rad with Code of the Commander's banner shield though but alas.

-The buff lasts 20 seconds but resets to 20 upon taking any damage, so for longer fights.. y'know.. GET IN THERE!

-With stasis, you can still use the Shiver Strike punch or the Glacier Grenade for a boost in mobility at the cost of your abilities that are on a long cooldown so combining it with that might be helpful though it's certainly not required.

-On the same subject (though inconsistent) breaking stasis crystals with melee also regenerates the buff sometimes, for some reason. So.. y'know, just a helpful tip I guess.

-This isn't a tip but in Gambit letting your titan (or being the titan) with the Icefall Mantle makes for a pretty safe carrier as if you get caught out you can Tank Up n' Bank Up when an invader comes in, this should give you breathing room to take a shot from the invader. (good for the "Protect The Runner" part of the Dredgen title)

-The Icefall Mantle buff seems to take president over other overshield buffs, so for instance you cannot have the upsides of Defensive Strike and Icefall Mantle at the same time. Not only the shield you simply don't even get the handling or reload speed or anything else, though it does still heal you.

Misc Information
*SURVIVAL CALCULATIONS BASED ON HAVING 100 RESILIENCE*

The shield has roughly ~100 HP, making it the 2nd strongest shield in the game behind the "Armor of Light" from the Ward of Dawn sentinel super.

This is enough health to Survive:
-Potentially 6 - 7 bodyshots or 4 - 5 headshots from most handcannons at close range
-A point blank buckshot blast from most shotguns
-A close to medium slug headshot from most shotguns
-A single bodyshot from a normal Golden Gun super (barely, so it's not very practical)
-A shoulder charge from a titan (Not tested with all charges)
-A hit from titan roaming supers (Not tested with all supers)
-Four normal melee attacks (Untested)
-A headshot from a "rapid fire" frame sniper, but not any other type

The shield itself also does not go away due to suppression, so it is somewhat a minor counter to suppression effects if you know they're coming (though you cannot cast the ability while suppressed)

I will attempt to update this as I do more testing but for now that is all! Have fun with the exotic! (or cross something off your to-do list if you decide not to farm it based on this information) Remember to get in there n' flex this new plating my heavily armored brothers and sisters!

Thanks for making this actually. I feel like theres two kinds of people who talk about this exotic. The first who only read the ability and think its just another broken PvP exotic because TITAN BAD OVERSHIELD STRONK. And then the other type is the people who've used it and realize just how much it takes away for a simple overshield.

Yeah, It really JUST restricts you to walking and shooting for the most part, but to be honest I don't blame them.

I think some people just have PTSD about when OEM was super busted is all.

It works with sparrows. A) doesn't slow you down B) the over shield is applied to your sparrow making it very resilient C) if it does blow up then the over shield will take the damage.

Man, If only we still had the "Scourge of the Past" raid, this'd be great with that one speeder section but oh well.

Your health does seem to recharge while you have the over shield so it you go critical and use it then your health may fully heal even while under fire.

Probably not since it takes so long to cast. Most people were probably losing their sparrow down a pit anyway so health wouldn't matter and you couldn't save yourself with a glide.

Yeah so even if you don't buff up before a fight you can still use it to save yourself inbetween.

I got mine after 11 tries. Promptly put it on and gave it a go. Shields UP... fight! Brain says I'm moving, closing in on enemy, jumping and dodging..... but I'm NOT. I'm like swimming in quicksand.

So for me, I really can't say these gauntlets and fun in the same sentence. Into the vault it goes...

It is pretty niche, but for people like me who absolutely ADORE that sort of "slow n' heafty" kinda playstyle this exotic is a godsend.. I only wish it had just a bit more health, 50 maybe? a 150 overshield in trade for all your movement doesn't sound that bad honestly but it did just come out. I am seeing a buff in the future perhaps.

You will be able to. They might have it be something you can get from another Guardian Games event (hope they do something different so it isn't just a soulless bounty grind). At the very least, and sadly, they aren't putting it in the world drop pool for Exotics.
