Can't take screenshots with F12
Europa is freaking beautiful, but I can't register it because the standard F12 screenshot key doesn't work in this game. Does anyone know what's happening, why this is happening, and more importantly, how can I make it work? Thanks!

Might have changed to the print screen button (to the right of f12)

You can change the screenshot in your settings and overlay settings. I set mine to * because F12 is used for a lot of game functions and * isn't used for anything.

There are two options, steam screen shot if you have the overlay active and set a capture key bind and destiny 2 screen shots itself which may be the "print screen button" next to scroll lock or pause/break, although you might actually have to set the key bind yourself in the options.

You may also have a keyboard that is defaulted to f keys if they are a shared function key so just press the modifier key.

The button is still F12 for the Steam screenshots, it just isn't workling. The Prnt Scr button is bound to a system-level screen capture, which is not what I'm looking for — I'm specifically looking to take Steam screenshots so I can post them to Steam itself.

Hm, interesting, I will try this. Is * Shift+8 on your keyboard? So do you press Shift+8 to take a screenshot?

I do have one of these keyboards, but it's set to the F keys without the Fn key. I use F1 to go to the character screen all the time, and it works.

Thanks for the answers, but I would still like to know why doesn't F12 work? It was supposed to work, and I have taken screenshots with it before (not sure if in Destiny 2, to be honest, but certainly in other games).

I have heard that it might be because I have HDR enabled. Do you guys think this might be the reason?

Is it easy to contact Bungie support? Much as the community can be helpful, I'm wondering if I should just ask them... 🤔

Because F1 is the character menu and F12, at least for me, isn't the screenshot button. If F12 on your keyboard doubles as the print screen key then you'll need to hold fn to use print screen unless you have the screen shot key bind specifically set to F12 then I don't know. Have you tried resetting the key bind for screen shot?

Oh I guess you specifically want Steam overlay screen shots, is the overlay active during Destiny 2 and did you double check to screen shot key bind in Steam, mine is shift+f12 but my f12 key is also just f12 so the shift+f12 might have just set it to print screen. To be honest I hated when I was stuck with a keyboard like that on my laptop.

If you can't get it to work then you can always just post your Destiny 2 screen shots as steam "artwork" if you can't get the integrated screen shots to work, I hope you figure it out.

See that's what's frustrating... I have tried resetting the key bind, and I do have steam overlay active when I press Shift+Tab in-game. Can't tell why this doesn't work...

I'll try setting it to a different key just in case.

You can use the games built in Screen Capture with Print Screen. It'll save to User/Documents/Destiny2

Maybe try setting up a new screenshots folder in the steam settings I just got it to work for me.

It has something to do with graphical settings, because I have the same problem in a few titles, while it works in most. I guess either dx12 or HDR, but actually never tested it.

I know I can do this, but I'm specifically trying to make Steam screenshots work.

That's what I'm suspecting is the issue, yes. Probably HDR. What I can't figure out for sure is how to make it work, or if it CAN work. I mean, if someone told me "yeah, if you have HDR enabled, then Steam screenshots won't work", then I would be golden. But I don't know whether there is even anything I can do to make them work...

I don't use HDR, but some of my friends do. They have always had to turn HDR off to take screenshots because the colours come out looking crazy on Steam with HDR enabled. Might be worth trying to disable it.

Thanks, I'll try that!

UPDATE: Yes, it was the HDR. As soon as I disabled HDR in-game, I was able to take Steam screenshots normally.

But now the game doesn't look as good as I'm used to, so screw taking screenshots. HDR is going back on.

Good to know.

Lol, I am thinking the same.
