If I buy the previous expansions, can I still play them ''now'' in 2020?
Hello, I humbly presume that the title says it all :)

I already own the game on PS4 (physical copy with the big box), but never opened it.
It's several years past the game's initial release now, and I think I might go either way (Steam/PS4 Pro).

The important question is; which version of the game to buy?
My primary goal is to access as much as the past and current content as possible.

To that end; I considered buying the so called; ''Legendary Edition'' that, to my knowledge; includes all the previous content from expansions such as Shadowkeep and Forsaken, as well as the latest ''Beyond Light'' expansion.
Downside is (probably); it doesn't include much any of fancy dlc bonus-items such as the pulse rifle from the deluxe edition of the Beyond Light expansion (It might be available as a purchasable DLC content on Steam, but prolly not seperately for sale as such on PS4?).

The other option is to pay about the same sum of money for the Deluxe Edition of Beyond Light.
It includes the latest expansion (and maybe the base game?.. If it's free, maybe?).
It also comes with fancy items, current season pass and some future season passes included as well, from store page description.
Choices, choices..

But HERE is the tricky part;

I read on Steam reviews (AND some gaming-related web pages as well), that some of the previous content was ''rolled out'' of the game as the latest expansion was released.

Steam user reviews - for example about Shadowkeep Expansion - indicate at first sight that all (or at least most) of the expansion content is no longer available in the game.

But if that's the case, is there any reason to buy the Legendary Edition, at all?
Perhaps I should just stick to my original copy of the game, install it, and purchase the Beyond Light Deluxe Edition Expansion on top of it?

But I'm frankly confused. Normally I can just get by, through reading the descriptions on the store pages, and it works just fine. But this time I dunno if previous expansion content that is mentioned in the store page for the ''Legendary Edition'' is available at all to begin with?

Ended up with a long post. Thank you in advance for your patience and any possible insight/answers.
Cheers :)

Ooook, this is getting kinda more bemusing, hence the reason I am bumping up my own post.

I have tried to further my search for an answer (is past dlc actually available/playable if I purchase the Legendary Edition?) and I just read some gaming-articles indicating that even the Main Campaign of Destiny 2 was removed? Can it be true? All my years of gaming I never heard of a game removing content on such extreme scale (removing main campaign, initial DLC's and 2 major DLC's for the sake of future content and a currently new expansion).

I want to play Destiny 2 but I have no idea what I will be getting if I cough-up the $$ :D

Forsaken, shadowkeep, and beyond light aren't going b anywhere anytime soon.

I'd say just try it for free first, but at this point the only one I'd consider worth recommending is Beyond Light. My reasoning (as simple as I can put it without confusing you) is that a lot of the content that both Forsaken and Shadowkeep offer is already free to begin with (the destinations themselves), and the only reason you'd consider buying either one is for the exotics, the one raid per expansion, and the campaigns. Beyond Light adds a lot more than those at this point and its where you'll be getting most of you powerful gear (which basically means getting more levels).

TL;DR buy Beyond Light and then Forsaken. Skip Shadowkeep

If you want more detailed explanation as to why, I can write you a couple of paragraphs

The campaign was fine, it is more than the 3 missions people like to exaggerate about, and there is a bunch to do on the moon and the raid, dungeon, and exotics are fun. The dungeon is also great for farming upgrade materials.

Yeah, but have in mind that both Forsaken and Shadowkeep give sunset loot. Did some legendary gear missions on Forsaken the other day and all loot was sunset. So I don't know if it actually makes any sense to get anything else but Beyond Lite and the season pass.

thats what it ever was good for dismantling into prisms, cos faster you will buy ascendant shard than it will drop from nightfalls
Unless purchasing said ascendant shard requires 100 of simulation seed (meaning the resource from Mercury, which thanks to vaulting is nowhere to be found).

Then wait a day.

I don't remember Forsaken having specific loot other than a bow and side arm reward and a few armor piece that you have to go out of your way to get.

But Shadowkeep's armor and weapons should definitely not be sunset especially since collecting it is part of the campaign and doesn't even level you up. Although the weapons weren't great to begin with imo, at least the scorn baron and moon armor will be able to be turned into ornaments in the future.
