A few of my observations about Devil's Ruin.

So Devil's Ruin just came out, an exotic pistol for season pass owners. Naturally, I went out to get it, since it is a pistol that comes with free lasers.

To obtain just:

-Do a Sundial Run (Normal is enough),
you can choose the quest along with your regular rewards in the end. It does not detract from your number of available rewards.

-Go talk to Saint XIV

-Go do the mission he sends you to,
you will be sent to a crucible map (without guardians that want to kill you) where you have to find destroyed robots with crucible symbols on them. There are 10 and they will appear one after another as you collect them. You will get some nice dialogue between Saint XIV, Osiris and Shaxx on the way.

That's it, you're done. You now got Devil's ruin. I expected them to cram in some super fun PvP stuff in there to be completely honest.


Now Devil's Ruin is a semi-automatic exotic solar damage sidearm with a 15-round magazine.
Its Perk allows it to charge a laser by holding down the trigger, it will then fire when fully charged which will deal solar damage and stagger enemies (unstoppable ones too!).

It does not seem to work with the tenderizer mod from the artifact, at least it didn't trigger for me using it on unstoppable champs in the sundial.

The laser deals a crapton of damage very quickly and can crit on weakspots, really devastating in PvE on bosses when they're made more vulnerable by abilites. I was able to bring down a champion with two fully charged lasers no problem.

The sights stay steady, which annoys me with all sidearms. Someone though it was cool to have them bouncing around like they're on a trampoline, Devil's Ruin behaves a lot like an Auto Rifle in that way.

The perk worked differently than I thought. "Fully charging the laser reloads the magazine from reserves" If you shoot it normally down to 1 round, you can fully charge your laser which will fill your magazine to 15 rounds and then empty it entirely, as the laser will use 1 round per damage tick much like a trace rifle. After this you have to reload, as you cannot charge the laser with 0 rounds in the magazine.


Just thought I'd leave my thoughts here, despite the fact that nobody cares.
I find it is good as a sidearm and very interesting as an exotic. It's not just a fauncey sidearm with some "special" perk on it, it is legitimately different. And since it is so extremely easy to get, I suggest to everyone to at least try it out, even if you don't really like sidearms normally.

seems that the beam doesn't really consumes 15 bullets, probably less.

another thing is most users have been super annoyed after IB's rocket kill quest steps, it's simply not wise at all to bother with pvp at the moment (they really shouldn't bother with pvp unless the quest is given by shaxx, considering saint 14 is more of a vex nemesis than a crucible dude)

I mean, TLW had a PvP step and that was from Drifter. Saint-14 just isn't a Crucible nuthead like Shaxx. Shaxx is the only person that would give you an exotic with ONLY PvP quest steps anyways. i've yet to go for it today but it seems fun and I hope Bungie continues to remember that Sidearms exist

In all honesty the questline felt like it was more of a hint hint at whats to come with Trials more so then it being just based on this gun. They gave quite a few winks and nods to trials (which I believe Saint is bringing in by the end of the season if the rumors are true). He does have an obsession with crucible but on a different level than shaxx.

The dialogue between the 3 was quite nice. They should do more of that stuff.

Everyone knows what we can do. Suraya constantly reminds us that "we took out Ghaul and woke up the Traveler", Drifter knows that we "killed a god or two", Zavala and Ikora witnessed our accomplishments first-hand during the main quests... Not to mention that, lore-wise, we're not even "a" Guardian, we're "the" Guardian. So apart maybe from Salad and his tournament, we shouldn't have to prove ourself to anyone.
