Nightfall: Ordeal quest given to F2P player?
I'm a new F2P player, and somewhere in the New Light quest I got another quest, Nightfall: The Ordeal, with a step to complete that strike. But it looks from the director like I can't do that because I haven't bought shadowfall. That seems broken to me, most MMOs don't give you quests from content until you've bought the content. Three questions:
1. Am I confused?
2. Should I abandon the quest to get it off my list?
3. If I do abandon a quest, can I ever get it back again?

The Ordeal changes every week, this week is a Shadowkeep mission and sadly, F2P can't access this. I don't know why Bungie didn't just give the choice between two or three nightfalls (like it's the case with Regular Nightfalls) for The Ordeal, it just locks content for New Light players and looks like the wrong way to make a DLC purchase attractive...

You'll be able to complete your quest the next time a "F2P" nightfall is available in The Ordeal, probably next week.

You can get most of the quests and pursuits back if you abandon them (though you'll lose progression).

So it's something they've done before, and it's really stupid, but because the Strike you do for Nightfall: The Ordeal this is week is from Shadowkeep, those without Shadowkeep can't do Nightfall: The Ordeal THIS WEEK. I remember there was this issue with Curse of Osiris or Forsaken or something in the past too

Also, I assume that's probably a daily or weekly quest, in which case you can just abandon it, and it'll be fine.

As I understand it, it's a quest part of "New Light", so it's not the weekly challenge, but a quest that requires the player to "discover" this activity.

The issue with year 1 was not that,.

Year 1 problems was with the fact that content from vanilla and coo where locked behind paypall in WM.... lol

Ah, I see
Thanks for the quick answer!
Nightfall: The Ordeal was last weeks nightfall, sadly.

You can simply dismiss the bounty and grab new ones for the regular strikes until a Nightfall Strike drops that you have access to. There are Strikes available on each planet that (when completed) unlock triumphs, so that should be a decent carry over until the next Nightfall Strike.
