Also, I assume that's probably a daily or weekly quest, in which case you can just abandon it, and it'll be fine.
The Ordeal changes every week, this week is a Shadowkeep mission and sadly, F2P can't access this. I don't know why Bungie didn't just give the choice between two or three nightfalls (like it's the case with Regular Nightfalls) for The Ordeal, it just locks content for New Light players and looks like the wrong way to make a DLC purchase attractive...
You'll be able to complete your quest the next time a "F2P" nightfall is available in The Ordeal, probably next week.
You can get most of the quests and pursuits back if you abandon them (though you'll lose progression).
As I understand it, it's a quest part of "New Light", so it's not the weekly challenge, but a quest that requires the player to "discover" this activity.
Year 1 problems was with the fact that content from vanilla and coo where locked behind paypall in WM.... lol
Ah, I see
You can simply dismiss the bounty and grab new ones for the regular strikes until a Nightfall Strike drops that you have access to. There are Strikes available on each planet that (when completed) unlock triumphs, so that should be a decent carry over until the next Nightfall Strike.
