Arma 3

Current Computer Build and Performance?
Just curious as to what everyone else is using in terms of their computer parts and what kind of performance they get on ArmA 3. I know it's the Alpha and with the arrival of new video drivers and optimization patches it'll get better, but let's just find out what everyone has for now.

Current Build is as follows;
GTX 560 SLI (Non TI)
Core i5 2500K 4.0Ghz
16Gb 1333 RAM
60Gb OCZ Agility 3 SSD
500Gb Seagate Barracude HDD
HP Mouse
HP Keyboard
Turtle Beach Z11 Headset

In terms of performance, I'm very happy with my Setup. Recording, I'm still pushing about 35+ FPS with everything pushing the limit besides View Distance.

i5 2500K 3.3GHz
Gigabyte 7950 3GB DDR5
8GB DDR3 1600MHz
1680x1050
Ultra settings, V-sync disabled in-game but forced by Catalyst, SMAA Ultra, view distance ~ 3000

Getting 15 to 30 fps.

With the CPU overclocked to 4.5GHz, 25 to 50 fps.

There clearly is some issue. Not sure if it is all the engine, some might be peoples machines or their expectations. I see some of the high end machines people have and wonder how the hell is the fps so low.

What we need to do is get a few people together. Hopefully get groups were everyone has the same type of cpu (AMD Intel) and same brand of GPU place them in the editor and start messing with settings and see if we can understand why some people are having these issues

i5 2500k at 4.7ghz
8gig ram
HD 5870 1gig
1680x1050
Win 7, 64bit.
Vsync on.

I run with everything on ultra/maximum except the following: I have it on 2xAA, I have post processing off mainly because I hate the blurring, and I have the visible range set at about 3000 ish, but I tweak that up and down depending on what I'm doing. I also have PIP just on standard for now.

Most of the time my frame rate is between 50 and 60. Although occasionally it dives down to 30 ish, I think mostly in towns or with very long distance views, but it's not very often. Looking forward to some optimisation to hopefully make it a bit more steady, and maybe I could end up increasing my AA a bit.

I'm very happy, wasn't expecting performance this good on my PC. I know my overclock is great but my graphics card I thought would struggle.

I suppose I should have stated that when I'm not recording, I'm getting around 45-50+ FPS with everything maxed, and the View Distance around 2500. While it looks pretty to up the View Distance even more, I don't see a point, since quite a few of the "Custom missions" lock it to something lower any way.

I agree a group testing type of thing would be nice, to find out what exactly is bottlenecking certain aspects for people, but actually organizing it would be the hard part. I'm sure some of us have decent enough ISP's that they'd be able to host a 5/10 player mission and just check different settings. If anyone is interested, I'd be down to help. Shoot me a friend request.

I upgraded to a new rig almost a month ago, and at present, I'm averaging around 70-85 frames with the game maxed out. Minus the DD of course, it's sitting at 7000 right now.

Win7 x64
i7 Extreme Edition 3970X OC'd to 4.6Ghz
ASUS Rampage IV MB
16GB DDR3 @ 2133MHz Corsair Dominator
1x GTX 680
Had the 3D Res at 1920x1080, but shot it up to 2516X1440 with little if any impact

Damn DetCord, those screenshots are very nice. Pretty impressive build. The only thing bottlenecking me right now is my GPU. The Non TI cards are considerably weaker then then the TI, and SLI isn't fully supported. If I were to buy a newer, stronger GPU I'd be fantastic.

Had to spend some of that recent deployment money on something nice for myself. It was all going towards booze...

The CPU is also an issue though. The game is incredibly CPU intensive in of itself, it lays all of the physics calculations and certain renderings on the CPU, not the GPU.

True that ArmA is pretty intensive on the CPU, but having a more powerful GPU would certainly benefit me more.

I don't have an after market cooler, so I'm on the one that came with my i5. I haven't had any problems with heating as of yet, but I don't want to push it while just being on air.
Infekt1on Mar 20, 2013 @ 3:45pm
How would I be lying
**Edit** Sorry, Correction 70 Stable
