And i am not that bad, i know how to command them and it works fine in other scenarios,
just in storymode they act completely stupid
You should check them out!
Personal options for improving your experience with AI in ARMA3:
Park them.
-the enemy AI *will* try to flank you. If you can spot the enemy before they spot you, park your soldiers on the flanks and your six o'clock and let them engage anybody trying to flank you as you move forward.
Control the crap out of them.
-get DWVAC Voice Activated Commands - it comes with a pre-made ARMA3 profile and has a two-week free trial. Watch one of Jester814's tutorial vids on getting the most out of your friendly AI (with VAC) and use the incredibly robust Commands system to tell them exactly what to do.
-Alternately you can practice practice practice controlling them *without* VAC but it's gonna take a lot of practice and a lot more time cycling through menus in the middle of a firefight.
Bottom line you have 2 options - ignore them or control every aspect of their behavior. Trying to do anything in-between can be frustrating and disastrous.
Also, their slow movement speed is a known issue, best way around it is to *not* have them in formation but give them Move orders every 10 seconds or so.
Finally, a spoiler for beating that mission very easily.
You do not need to actually hijack the truck as it's gonna get blown up later in the mission anyway. Just kill all enemies, blow up the truck (or let the enemies do it) and head to next objective.
and ennemy AI is very bad too, they can one shot you from 500m with an AK with no scope or anything... even on easiest difficulty, for what I have seen the thing to do in that case is to get closer to them by using smoke grenades... lots of them... that will allow you to get closer and kill them easier. smoke is very good even to save your teamates
but AI is very badly made in this game... really doesn't feel like there is much balance, I stoped playing this game because I had to try mission 1 from showcase 100 times on easiest difficulty to beat it... and to those who will say that I'm just not good enough, every time I play that mission I kill 80% of the ennemies but bravo gets killed before I reach that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ village... I accomplished that mission because of a bug, bravo was dead but the game acted like if they were alive... lol
Sometimes it's the AI that sinks you, but often enough it's the scripts. Considering that Arma III is about being a "military sandbox" and not a Tom Clancy novel, you just have to game the game sometimes.
