Arma 3 base game downloads malware?
I bought Arma 3 this morning for myself and a family member and upon them downloading it, their ESET popped this message on a malicious file being detected and said it was deleted. Has anyone else experienced this with this game or others and know if the game is compromised? I have yet to download mine but I have ESET also. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you!

ESET Internet Security notice:
“A suspicious application (Win32/
Packed.VMProtect.BB) was found in a file that *Steam tried to access.
The file has been deleted.”

False positive from your virus scanner.

Thanks for your reply. Did you encounter the same with the game download? I looked at several security sites saying they’ve flagged it for other things as well but the posts were mostly older. Do you have any idea what that file is for relating to the game?

I haven't experienced it myself but then again, it's been quite a while ago since I downloaded Arma 3; I'm not a veteran player but most definitely a vivid one: the game never left my harddrive ;)

Thing is: I've seen comments like these sporadically pop up more often and in all cases it could be traced back to a virus scanners false positive. Which is kinda east to occur with installers... depending on the virus scanner.

OK, thanks again ShelLuser.

I think you can safely download just about anything on Steam. It would be a PR disaster if they suddenly OK'd malware

While I agree, I would still show a little caution towards very obscure indie games which have only just come out, I don't doubt they'll be caught and thrown off the store if they were malicious but some might not get noticed straight away.

Naturally a 13 year old AAA title like ArmA3 does not fall into that category.
