Arma 3

Has Altis and Stratis ever been put into one map?
So I was recently playing my group on Stratis, playing a 3 part Zeus story, and I thought "Man I wish there was a map that combined the two..."
Because they started off invading Altis, but then we're forced back to Stratis, and it's just a pain and really breaks any tension in the story when you have to back out of the scenario and boot up the other one for Stratis. It just makes any tension or intensity vanish from existence, and then theres the nightmare of getting all of us back into a helo into a reatively close to where they would be spot.
I've done digging on forums but they're all VERY old and I have no idea if it has or could be done. If anybody could tell me whether or not it's been done, I'd appreciate it, if it has been done, I don't care how sketchy the site is. Tell me, anyways

Thanks :)

I actually really like this idea. It's inconvenient though, as air transport it the only way to get there. I know there are boats and submarines, but they're tiny.

In vanilla, yes that's true. However we do have the power of the community workshop, such as this one, which adds large cargo ships, frigates, and other waterborne vehicles.

How have I never heard of this mod

Thanks for the link

I don't think this map would be extremely hard to make compared to all these other maps being made on the workshop, it'd be pretty cool to have

Apparently there's too much distance (about 30km) between altis and stratis. IRL we would need a bigger map limit to have both islands as one.

The map size limit is on the level of South Asia, which is 122x122 kilometers. You could easily fit Altis and Stratis in that area even with a significant ocean barrier.

From what i understand it depends on if the map loads objects or not. With objects the map size is limited to 20x20 or 40x40 km (not sure which)

South Asia loads plenty of objects, like buildings, although it does make concessions for the sake of performance in terms of terrain detail and the fact that the water is just blue dirt. However, if we place Stratis about ten kilometers south of Altis, then we're well within the engine limitations of the game.

That could be it, having it a bit closer. However im not sure why has nobody with some mapping experience attempted it.

It would most likely require the permission of Bohemia Interactive. I imagine the relevant files are binarized and would require BI to hand over relevant source data.

This is true, all the map data is binarized and unavailable.
Unless your talented in somehow getting the encrypted data your ♥♥♥♥ outta luck.
Next best option is just for someone to recreate the two maps together from scratch.
But good luck finding someone to do that...by the time they finished, arma 3 will most likely be dead haha

why would BIS binarize the maps?

You have to think of maps as if they were... say.. object models.
Bis does not want anyone to take their original work and copy it.. then call it their own.
combining both maps would be doing exactly that.
El Berl Apr 20, 2020 @ 1:11pm
BI tends to be more lenient with this stuff for older games, so we might see a combo Altis-Stratis map in Arma 4.

You can try something like this if your seriously interested in travelling from one island another without leaving the game

http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=27261

Its called the cosmos engine, allows you to travel into space and then land wherever u want (altis, stratis)
