Arma 3
Contact DLC made me worried about Arma 4
We know already that Arma 3 was intednded to be an alien game but it turned out to be in a near future setting 2035. As one of the many franchise players , a large number of us was hoping to see Arma 4 put in a modern and realistic setting or not to deep in the future. But this Contact DLC made me a bit worried about what Arma 4 is hiding.

Does anyone have anything related to Arma 4 Development ?

Now in Arma time is 2035 so Arma4 will be in the space , maybe starships , space cruiseships and mars war at mass effect style xD

arma 4 will probaby go back in time or be contempory warfare, i hope they go back to the 2010s and has a story that isnt all about nato but maybe follow russia, china and iran as they form CSAT before they get all the futureistic gear

Star Citizen's full open universe mixed with ArmA's tactical realism and modding potential would be the best thing ever, but I'll have to agree that a non-traditional (meaning, grounded on Earth and Earthly conflicts) ArmA probably wouldn't be met too warmly.

Maybe it could be a spin-off title but not a "proper" successor of A3.

Dont worry guys, Contact DLC isnt canon so it has no effect on the plot

Have you played Star Citizen? If the PU is a glimpse of the future then SC is going to be an utter borefest. If you look past the missing features, bugs and broken mechanics what you have left is a mediocre game with very little innovation. I have played better asset flipped indie games that cost a quid.

The flight model is a joke, the first person combat is utter wank. If CiG don't hurry up some other developer will deliver everything, without the pay to win or expensive ship packages.

You can argue that it still isn't finished. Well they have taken since 2011 and still haven't nailed the flight. Their progress and delivery sends up warning flags.

Arma 4 would be cool. Doesnt change, I am excited about this DLC! A Military simulation and may be a realistic overpowerd alien race = a damn hard and awesome challenge!

Yep, but I only tested it out, didn't delve that deep into it. My first thought was "Doom 3 meets Wing Commander" or along those lines.

I'm actually not fetishizing SC like some people seem to be doing and I agree that their business model is rather off-putting, still, it would be insincere to say that it's not a highly ambitious title.

Even if it's taking years to make and, ironically enough, might be the last in the line of the modern-day "space sims" which it helped ressurect in the first place (this genre of games was pretty much dead before SC got a huge success with crowd sourcing, which encouraged the likes of Elite Dangerous and NMS to materalize).

Here's all the news you need to know regarding Arma 4:

"We plan to keep Arma3 fresh and exciting for several more years" - 2018.

"Arma 4 is not in development"

Arma 4 isn't even planned, and won't start production for a long time. They haven't even said they intend to make Arma 4. Right now they are just trying to finish the EnFusion engine.

The best metric we have is DayZ standalone. *shrug*

What Cylixx said, with the addendum that Bohemia's all-but-called-it-a-day on Arma 3's Real Virtuality 4 engine in favor of said Enfusion engine, whose iteration used by DayZ is nowhere near ready for Arma 4 purposes.

I lowkey know that this is the truth but it's nice to keep some hope , i always think why even have arma 4, the only reason would be the engine improvment ( visuals and mechanics...) But their slow advance with DayZ current engine makes me think that the engine itself won't be near complete to be able to run arma 4

ArmA 4 is arguably going to be set in a time period where Bohemia Interactive can either create their own assets and register their own IPs for them, or they will obtain the IPs. Most likely going to be the former, as greed is a thing.

If Bohemia Interactive wanted to really hit the players, they should focus strictly on an era that provided a good conflict on a moderately-to-massively sized scale. I would say if Bohemia went for a World War II setting, or a 80s - 90s setting, they would be good. Not only would said companies be less inclined to push their IPs on Bohemia, but without the sour feelings of the more recent wars.

There's no Aliens. Only objects, five new weapons, and assorted gear. And a map that's smaller than most regular mod maps, and uses the same objects as every other map. What fun. Imagine if they released more than just one map like they did with OA.
