I managed to make my no-name PS3-style gamepad work with this x360ce emulator too. The brand name of my gamepad is "doop", it's an in-house name of ΠΛΑΙΣΙΟ, the biggest computer retailer here in Greece.
Here is the reference-webpage[code.google.com] I used. The only thing that's not explicitly mentioned therein is that you should load a "Preset" from the ControllerX\General tab in order for the ControllerX sqaure-light to turn green (meaning that the gamepad is ready to run). Since my controller wans't listed, I used "Logitech Cordless RumblePad 2" and it did the trick.
I would say google "x360ce crash"
Ironically, I'm using a PS2 controller with a dual PS1/2 to USB adapter to emulate an XBOX 360 controller. Microsoft would not approve.
