First time playing Aliens vs Predator from 2010 (also known as AvP 3) and I was really hype about it.

The concept is cool, playing with or against well known horror aliens like the xenomorph or the predator, also adding humans into the mix is a cool idea. Graphics for its time are alright, especially the lighting and the shadow effects. The game contains multiple campaigns where you can play with all factions, all of them play differently, which is interesting to have. Every campaign has some kind of collectibles as well and the game has achievements to complete. The sound design and the soundtrack is really fitting to AvP. The game also tries to be authentic to the Alien and Predator movies, some moments from the game trying to replicate scenes from said movies, and I think the fans can appreciate these. Each campaign has their iconic equipment to use and areas to play in. When it was active, the multiplayer was considered to be great in this game.

But in my opinion this game has some issues which just makes the product hard to enjoy. If you have played through the marine campaign, you basically saw all of the maps in the single player, because the other campaigns play on the same maps as the marine campaign. Then, for me the game was too dark and this was especially annoying with the marines. The game in general is hard, even on medium difficulty can give you a hard time, although there are exceptions to note here, which I will talk about later. The story for each campaign was not interesting for me at all even though it covers most aspects of the universe and tries to show some kind of the plot, but with no avail, the voice acting also was questionable at times. The control scheme was a struggle to get used to it. The playtime of each campaign is short, the longest one is the marine campaign with it's 2-3 hours length, the predator campaign takes 1-1 and half hour to beat and the alien one is just less than an hour long.

I played all campaigns on hard difficulty and they have their own pros and cons as well...

Marine campaign
This one actually starts out well, the horror factor is noticeable in the first few levels and story wise it has a good introduction, but these disappears later. This is one of the hardest campaigns in this game and in my opinion the least enjoyable as well. Maps are too dark for the marines even with flashlight and flares, making the aliens hard to detect. Enemies here are annoying to fight against, especially the xenomorphs and the androids which gave me a headache, thanks to the marines' sluggish movements which makes you an easy target and barely can make you dodge attacks. Speaking of sluggish movements, some maps has big areas to cover and because of this it can take minutes to go on foot, giving you some down time. Melee system is just useless to have for this faction.

I can understand that in AvP the marines are the weakest faction, so they should have the most difficult campaign as well with their difficulties which makes the game somewhat authentic, but honestly this was just not fun to play through.

Predator campaign
Comparing to the marine, the predator has enjoyable abilities and equipments gameplay wise, it also has an interesting looking melee system which work like as a rock-paper-scissors game, and the visual representation in the HUD and the appearance of the predator works well and makes it distinguishable from the other factions. However, this campaign is highly dependent on the player's ability to understand this character, because even though the game gives you a tutorial level, the first few levels are going to be difficult if you can't understand the tutorial and use it in action. Personally, this was more annoying at first then the marine campaign in general, but after a lot of trial and error I got used to it, especially when you realize that you want to avoid confrontation with the enemies and try to separate them as much as possible, and I can say that this campaign is much easier than the marine one. The melee system which seems interesting gets annoying to use, because on higher difficulty I was barely able to kill anyone with it, and in the end you will going to use one or two equipment and just cheese your way through of everything.

If you can get used to the predator playstyle I think this campaign can be alright, but the playtime it's still short and the first few levels are still hell to get through, but this is miles better than the marine campaign.

Alien campaign
This campaign is similar to the Predator one, but with less equipment to use. It's also somewhat heavy on melee combat but it's more about executing enemies from behind. Once again the HUD and visual representation is different from what we saw so far and the difficulty is pretty alright here, except in the last boss fight which is a bit hard mainly because you don't know how to deal with the enemy. Xenomorph's movement is pretty cool, as you can move on walls and go in vents, but sometimes certain areas don't connect well and you can't really chain these movements together.

This is definitely the highlight of the game, however as I wrote before it's the shortest one as well. This gives some decent fun.

Verdict
I'm not a big AvP or Aliens or Predator fan and since the public multiplayer is not active and you can only play it with friends, I can only go by the campaigns and to be honest it was a mixed experience. I can recommend playing this only if you are either a fan or you want to play something difficult, otherwise I would skip it. 15€ is a lot for it, but around 5-7€ is a good price to pay.

Excelente jogo. É incrível como um título com mais de 14 anos tem uma jogabilidade tão boa e gráficos tão bacanas. Bons tempos onde os jogos eram lisos sem stutters a cada 10 segundos. A possibilidade de jogar 3 campanhas diferentes, com gameplays totalmente diferentes caso você seja humano, alien ou predador. Mesmo atualmente ainda há uma boa base de players jogando online todos os dias, o que garante a possibilidade de brincar um pouco no multiplayer.
