Safe ways to clean the lenses on this garbage headset?
Since you can't remove/replace the lenses and as far as I can tell they're made of plastic, what is a safe method to clean the lenses without damaging them? I mean at this point the headsets not usable so it's not much of a difference if I do damage them I guess, but I'd rather not destroy a $1300 peice of hardware pointlessly.

Use typical optical cloth, just like you clean glasses.

you should of recieved a pack of manuals with a cloth in there too.
but since you say you payed $1300 for the headset, im assuming you bought it used. and unfortunately did not get it? and possibly have further damage done to it because it was used?
first things first. what are you cleaning off of it?
most lens's get cleaned with, air being blown on it, then a soft brush to remove the big debris and then your microfiber cloth

No, $1300 is the price for it in my nation. For some reason :D.

Also to both of you, thanks for the mention of the microfibre/optical cloth, but this doesn't work. Lense still fogs up instantly (completely blind in less than 5 minutes). Presumably there must be something on the lense that's causing this. Legitimately nothing else I have ever owned fogs up this insanely fast.

Fogging up is usually due to temperature difference, if the headset is cooler than the air trapped between your face and it, humidity will condense on the lenses. Or whatever it's called. I have a friend with the same problem, but he's also had it between headsets so it's more depending on the person than the headset itself, or at least in some cases 😅 What is your humidity at and is the headset cold before you put it on?

100% humidity (sadly). Headset is room temperature.

Thing is though, I never had this problem with the Rift. I could use the rift for an hour and a half (longest I ever got before it crapped out) without it fogging up. Index instantly fogs up, did since I got it and it's gotten worse over time.

So it's nothing to do with the environment.

Seriously, I wish the rift worked with my PC as it's just the better headset :D.

nothing to do with the enviroment? meaning you just put on a rift and index and the rift doesnt fog up?
pray tell, how long ago did you try the rift?

Couple of months ago now, and not try, owned. Played with it for a fortnight before deciding to send it back because of a power interrupt issue.

Because of how long the return time took, had the rift and the index at the same time for a week and a half. Index fogged up to blindness within half an hour when I first got it which was really annoying but ultimately managable. Rift didn't fog up at all.

Index is now blindness level fog within 5 minutes.

try leaving the headset on for 15 minutes before using see if this helps. the heat buildup will reduce humidity. That's what I do with my vive with leather cushion that traps all humidity. Humidity is then gone.

It's always on for me, or rather on standby but the heat is still coming from the front (whatever that heat is coming from...).

Do you mean on and in game for that long beforehand?

Also what is that heat coming from? Is it the screen? Like I said had a rift and vive, had a short go on a PSVR even, only the index heats up like this. Wierd too as it has radiator holes in the front of the headset but then a plastic cover that blocks all of them and makes them useless... Must have been an intentional design choice, but why..?

with the index, i never experienced fogging. you must be worst case scenario.

Irritating if so :D

Last night I had the same problem, 3 minutes after playing on the Index, the upper half of the lens was fogging.

After playing 10 minutes, the heat generated by the HMD solved it.

Try to keep the humidity in the room low, ventilate the room and just be patient: winter is coming.

Go to glasses shop and ask for anti fog fluid. will do the trick.

I use this, which I 3D printed myself, and it keeps your headset free from fog, and the air feels good while playing in VR. The 2nd STL file has a 40mm fan version, and that is the one I use.

You can buy a REAL one of those. It's in the end of Set#1 on this page here in our steam group...

It actually seems to have fixed my HMD's connection issues (that was due to over heating the HMD, I thnk)
