Also the content that are not Savage/Ultimate don't last a month, they last exactly one night, even for busy wagies. You have a 15-minute visual novel, a dungeon that's the same as every other dungeon since Stormblood, a Trial and sometimes an Alliance Raid that you'll do once because there's nothing useful for raiders in there. Not worth blowing a 30-day sub on.
As for even patches/new raid wings, good statics get it down within 1 day to a week. PFs do take longer, but do you really consider carrying some idiot 200 times through a mechanic you could execute in your sleep to be content? I don't. Same with Ultimates, these are 20-minute fights where you spend most of the time repeating the run-up segment, and if that is content then running around red Neusen Plant until the real meat appears is also content.
Most importantly, the only reason this stuff even gets a month of play time out of people was because the gear were time and token-gated. Without doing split clears or alts, you have one shot at doing it a week. There is also a weekly cap on your tomestones. Then you sit there twiddling your thumbs until you are allowed to play the game again. If people were able to freely farm in this game, all of this nonsense would be over in less than a week.
(And why the hell would they not be? They literally paid for their subs. It's beyond ♥♥♥♥♥♥ to have your players pay a 30-day sub to get 4 days of meaningful play out of it, and sign up for a house that will get demolished if they dare to break their subscription streak. The virtual land comes in limited quantities, by the way.)
Actually I just remembered why I scuttled back to this game. Endwalker's postgame was just that bad; it made NGS look like a lush grassy field in comparison.
Do you know what happened in the industry in the three years of 2014, 2015 and 2016? Dark Souls II came out. Then Bloodborne came out. Then Dark Souls III. Not joking.
It really puts into perspective how bad we have it with these live service games. What do they have to offer in a similar three-year span? Not even 1/2 of a single one of these games.
I'm not sure if they are just that time-consuming to produce, or these devs are sleeping at the wheel, all I know is that the offering sucks and even sunk cost has a limit. It warms my heart to see people drop out of Yawnfail like dandruff.
Simplified Skill Trees and JAs being removed were due to players like you. Claiming PSO2 had variety and choices is just saying you are the type of person to stubbornly play GuRa with an old weapon without saying it.
Explain, you said that based on what information?
You can look at PSO2 videos dated from 2012, it plays like a scifi Monster Hunter. In the next following year Tera, Warframe, Blade&Soul, BDO, and the remake of the current FF14 will take away the PSO2 players.
With those new games with better graphics and fancier action combat, it began depleting PSO2 players. The South East Asian PSO2 server and Chinese PSO2 servers closed in just 2 or 3 years.
PSO2 Japan also had unpopular updates and content droughts. It was not what PSO2 global experienced. When PSO2 Global version launched in 2020, it already had all the quality of life updates.
I honestly dont believe Sega can do a good single player game. The new Sonic game pretty much proved that.
But Alpha System or Tri Ace could work on another episode.
Does it matter ?
EA titels also aint made by the same team but all EA games are borderline sh*t. Ubisoft ? Same story. Do you honestly believe different teams have different freedoms ? Nah. Sega tells them what they want and how much budget they have for it and in which time frame the product has to be finished.
What Team works on what game is irrelevant as long as the one giving the orders stays the same.
If we include Atlus, there's Persona 3 Portable, the entire Etrian Odyssey series, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked.
And while I haven't played it yet, I heard that Shadow Generations is really good, while Sonic Generations X is even worse than the original was.
7th Dragon III Code: VFD was so bland, I can't even remember the story. It worked similarly to Etrian Odyssey, but was just Etrian on baby mode in terms of difficulty; I never struggled with any of the fights from start to finish.
Phantasy Star Zero, man.... where do I begin. Not only could you beat the game in around 3 hours, the story was painfully boring and you could see the plot twists from a mile away. The gameplay was okay for its time, being a 2008-9 game, and the drop rates were beyond horrible. Anyone who thinks NGS has terrible drop rates clearly hasn't played Phantasy Star Zero(or Online 1). The grind was disgusting, the game had limited areas, and if you weren't playing online, you're basically just spamming Eternal Tower over and over again.
Although Gens and Colours were good games.
3 hours for PSZ' main story? I don't know which class but I think it's only 5 but then again normal mode is fast to complete.
The story is straightforward for a handheld RPG from the 00's, sure it's not Chrono Trigger nor FF7 but it's still entertaining.
It's still an impressive game for the DS but I do wish they made a sequel or extended remaster (a la Portable 2 Infinity) on the 3DS.
The grind has always been an issue like with the original PSO (on Dreamcast).
Also Like a Dragon is mogging PS at this point.
I consider Generations and Colors to both be terrible Sonic games, but apparently Sonic Generations X makes what little awful story it has even worse by ruining the dialogue.
