Character Creation in PSO2 NGS is a Complete Disaster
Hey everyone,

I just wanted to share my thoughts on the character creation in PSO2 New Genesis. Despite the title, let me tell you, it's absolutely fantastic—but that's exactly the problem!

I've never played anything like it. The level of customization available is mind-blowing and has become a complete disaster for my free time. You can tweak almost every aspect of your character's appearance to create a truly unique avatar that stands out in the game world. The variety of options for hairstyles, facial features, body types, and accessories is so impressive that it has become a rabbit hole I can’t escape from.

The attention to detail is stunning. The textures and models are high-quality, and the ability to fine-tune small details like eye shape, skin tone, and even the placement of facial tattoos or scars adds a level of depth that makes it impossible to stop tweaking. This level of control over my character’s appearance has truly immersed me in the game, but at what cost? Hours just fly by without me even realizing it!

Moreover, the interface is user-friendly, making it easy to navigate through the options and see changes in real-time. This ensures that players can create their perfect character without any hassle or frustration, but it also means I can spend an absurd amount of time perfecting every little detail.

Even though I'm new to PSO in general, I’ve been completely blown away by the character creation system. However, I do wish they would add some sort of PvP mode. Being able to battle other players with the characters we’ve so meticulously crafted would add another layer of excitement and engagement to the game.

I believe the character creation system in PSO2 NGS sets a new standard for MMORPGs and is a testament to the developers' dedication to providing players with an immersive and personalized experience. But beware, it’s so good that you might find yourself getting sucked in for hours on end.

What are your thoughts? Have you found yourself lost in the character creation like I have? Do you think a PvP mode would be a great addition? Let’s discuss!

Btw another version of PVP could be simply adding ranks of damage trackers like a highscores at the end of each trial or something. I mean, since we are building our characters I would love to see how I stack up!

The editor is quite good indeed. It may be missing this or that in terms of sliders (mostly around the mid body) and wearable fashion (this game replaces top-bottom with outwear-basewear-innerwear, and there are plenty of outfits with non removable height altering foot wear), but overall is pretty good.

I'd add more mid body sliders, mostly separating tights from groin and torso, and add a way for type 1 and type 2 to have their own separate saved sliders just like humanoid and cast have right now. I'd also add voice slots for each save too, so people won't need alt characters and can have all the different genders and options on a single character. Maybe even remove the need for a shape ticket so we can save different shapes. I suppose this won't happen because part of the fashion market goes around shape tickets and having to get two of the same item to bind to the whole account.

As for pvp, the first PSO had it (on the Game Cube version, and if I remember correctly the Dreamcast Ver. 2 had it too), and it was kind of fun, albeit a bit on the unbalanced side. And that would be the main problem with NGS. I'm hardly a pvp expert as I avoid it for the most part, but I believe the current classes would be unbalanced when pitted against each other, as they were created with coop pve in mind.

Can it be done? With a lot of balancing and effort, maybe yes. But I doubt the dev and the main community this game caters to (meaning Japan) has such a thing in mind right now.

Character creation is basically all this game has to offer, it is probably the only thing that is still holding players to play the game.

People should stop trying to shoehorn in PvP in a PvE game. They tried that in base PSO2 with Battle Arena and it was pretty bad. People only really did it for the weekly Star Gem reward and it was mostly done through win trading.

Your "another version of PvP" is basically the weekly ARKS Record rankings we have now in NGS. Beating certain cocoon (somtimes geometric pyramid) with the highest setting and lowest time or doing the arks field races/parkour with the highest points.

"Do you think a PvP mode would be a great addition? Let’s discuss!"

"There was one in base pso2 and it died, just like the nameless city. So I personally don't think it would be a good addition. But the scoreboard I'm all for it."

"Btw another version of PVP could be simply adding ranks of damage trackers like a highscores at the end of each trial or something. I mean, since we are building our characters I would love to see how I stack up!"

Actually, this feature was in base pso2, they should bring this back. I think this is what gave me the incentive to upgrade my gear. I actually loved this feature. Love seeing my name on top of the scoreboard and comparing other players' numerical values. It boost my Ego

You should ask about this feature on Twitter/X #NGSHeadline if they plan on adding it to ngs or not.

It's the one objectively great thing about the game. If I had one nitpick though, it would be that the art style isn't really my style, it's very generic. I prefer the art style of PSO or PSU's characters. CASTS are the worst, they used to look really cool in the older games, but they just look like robots now.

Base has an incredible story, and NGS's story is improving.

Hey if Quasimodo could get a girlfriend, anything could happen! There's an abomination for everyone somewhere in the world out there and who knows, someone might think that an abomination is "cute"! :steamlaughcry:

As for PvP, did I miss something or isn't "PvP" in base game totally independent of a person's equipment? You go into the arena without a single piece of equipment and pick them up off the floor. And die in 2 hits. lol.

As Sukunahime said, in the Japanese version anyway, and only if the protagonist is female, "Love comes from the heart. It cares not for gender or appearance."

Casts were just mannequins with minor armor attached, unless it was RAcast. They looked far worse back then than they do now.

The creator is so far the reason why I still play the game. I wish every MMORPG out there would have what this game can offer. I like it and I hope they gonna upgrade it even more in the future.

there is literally nothing wrong with robots

also this game doesn't have any one specific style. the character creator is flexible to the point you can specify any style you want, and use accessories to go beyond the base mesh and expressions.

as far as the player character is concerned, anyway. the NPCs do follow a certain style and you may find that generic, but NPCs looking all constipated didn't stop me from enjoying my character which definitely did not look as bad as them, back in PSO2.

speaking of PSO2, facial customization has come a LONG way since it. the variety i've seen people pull off in NGS, on both Global and JP, mogged it so hard it isn't funny, while every nerd still clinging to an old face variant looks the same to me nowadays.

this was actually a thing in base seasonals and something that should be brought back. the rewards were negligible but it pushes you to play better, and with luck, it might even communicate to normal attack spammers that it's NOT what they should be doing in a multiplayer environment because they're doing 1/10000000 what the other players with brains are doing.
