The only thing related to your title is this part : "you don't have to write stories from scratch", everything else is you, asking for remakes of the older games.
But to add to your title, the Slayer exchange NPC is a freaking joke.
20 tickets and the only stuff that was worth it was refiners, the steel camo and x10 scratch tickets.
There is nothing to spent the remaining 10 tickets.
I've said this before but Sega has done so much in its past that they could integrate into New Genesis that would make the game fun or, at least, varied. Like, how trippy would it be if, randomly, Dark Falz raptures us to a Phantasy Star 1, 2, 3, and 4 world and we had to fight our way through that, PSO, PSU, and PSO2 before landing back in New Genesis to fight Dark Falz or whoever comes next? Something like that.
Rant time.
It's like developers are allergic to or have no idea what fun means anymore and it's so sad and frustrating to see. A friend of mine was telling me about Call of Duty's April Fools modifier. She told me explosives had a rocket jump affect, I don't know what else was going on, but my guess was everyone had a jester hat, guns fired paint balls, eggs, and tomatoes instead of bullets, grenades exploded into custard, you would hear a 3 Stooges style nyuks and whoops for headshots and executions, and there's a random banana peal on the map that causes the victim to throw their leg up in the air and ragdoll the ♥♥♥♥ out with a cartoon sound effects. That game has a bow, too, right? Put a boxing glove on the end of that arrow and have it hit with a cartoon sound effect, too. At first I thought I was asking too much, but then I remembered it was Activision and Call of Duty is their cash cow. My point is it's a special occasion, why not go nuts?
So did any of the other updates before this one do that?
to me, at least there are new things to do, but this one, after finishing the story line, there are nothing to do, just throw us back into the same old Daily/Weekly - they didn't even open at least a new dungeon like the Ordinal Tower thingie.
Yeah, that's why I said in my opening post - they need to modernize the UI and controls in the old games, as a remake.
I did dig out the PSU and was thrown off with the age old game mechanics, like lack of dodge and parry, but I still want to relive the story. Sega, please give us remake (and modernization) of PSU and PSP.
What? I haven't played a single Phantasy Star game yet where I need to grind that long to get a weapon that makes or breaks the game. PSU had a ton of variety to their weapons, as did PSO2. There was never one weapon out of reach that you needed to complete the content in the game. On PSU, you could just buy a weapon from the personal shop. The variety was so great that you never had a problem finding a weapon for cheap.
But did you know the sheer terror of attempting to grind a 9/10 Kubara weapon in PSU? DID YOU?
I remember grinding snow fields for the black bunnies to spawn, to MAYBE get M-109 Yasminkov, and I never got it after hundreds of hours, had to do a unique drop trade with someone who did, because I got lucky and pulled a Yonohate In.
In Portable 2, I remember grinding Phantasmal Orchestra just to try and get World of Guardians, since Orga Anastasis was guaranteed to spawn at the end. It took me 15 runs to get it, while a friend of mine was unlucky and didn't get it in over 100 runs. For the record, you had to run 4 different missions to collect the items necessary to run Phantasmal Orchestra, and if anyone died in Phantasmal without a scape doll, the run completely failed.
It's not so much about power, rather, it's more about being a collector that compels people to waste their life grinding for stupid rare drops.
What about episode 1 PSO2, when Guld Milla, Psycho Wand, and Celesta Laser only dropped from Elder, and typically only dropped once every ~3 or so months?
Phantasy Star has always been riddled with terrible drop rate weapons since forever.
