The thing is, the majority of Koreans are happy with this. To understand why this is a good move in Korea, we need some context.
So, look at this emoji -> 🤏
This emoji is in the logo of one of the largest radical feminism communities, "Megalian".
This hand sign represents a small penis and was majorly used to make fun of how small a Korean's one is.
One of the artists used this hand sign for commercial animations and illustrations they were working on. Showing their opinion might be okay (to some extent), but not at the cost of a whole company's brand image/reputation.
Koreans were canceling those acts strongly and I don't think that'll change anytime soon.
Companies need to punish the artists quickly and to the maximum extent.
If not? They are now agreeing with the "megalian artists", and them using commercial works to spread their ideas.
They thought deleting the skins was better off.
You can remake skins, but cannot rebuild trust.
Some people will claim that this organization is not like other feminist organizations, that they are only interested in hating men. Anyone old-timer with a decent memory or anyone who paid attention in their history class will realize that this is the exact same accusation that was levied against every feminist organization when they first started (and is often still thrown around now). If you are used to a life of being privilege being asked to give up that privilege may seem like an attack, but it is the only way to true equality.
Now with a bit of the background out of the way I will say that I personally do not care for the mirroring tactic as a long term one. While it is very useful for pointing out hypocrisy it doesn't do much to truly improve anyone's life. However I can think of no more petty infantile action then removing a bunch of skins from the store because they were made by an employee you don't like. The fact that they have fired this individual reducing their overall workforce while simultaneously adding additional work that will not even produce any new content is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid. If you look at the content they're removing that's about a season's worth of skins that are going to have to be remade because Nimble Neuron have paper-thin skin. Personally I've bought about 4 of their season packs and have given them about $2-300 but will not be buying anything from them in the future.
You've probably seen what would happen if they don't take a stance here. The people who do care (e.g. Korean players) will start bombing the reviews and message board with criticism. This gets picked up by random English news sites / users and parroted ad infinitum, resulting in more review bombing and a huge hit to the company's reputation. This dance has happened so many times before, and I think they made a smart decision by distancing themselves immediately even if I personally like some of these skins.
Whether or not you personally care about a social issue does not change the fact that the issue exists. I understand the frustration of having skins from your favorite game removed, but what are a few skins compared to the company's integrity?
Femicrazys is a result from greed and of mistreatment. But of course team eternal dogship is going to take the low ground. Ship you might as well go all the way and add nicky in a thong and loose tank top with coupon code ALLSIZESMATTER.
I wonder if you can still say that the Megalians are on the side of justice after reading all this
Please wait a minute
2. A reporter using Megalia who received a report about a misogynistic remark captured it and posted it on Megalia (this is against Korea's code of ethics for reporters).
3. The reason why Korean men are angry about the comfort women issue in Korea (a historical issue in which they were forcibly taken by Japanese soldiers and sexually assaulted during the Japanese colonial period) is because ‘Korean women, whom I should rape and treat roughly, were taken by force and violated by foreign men. , The comfort women were disparaged by saying, ‘I feel unfair and my pride is hurt because they were defiled by a man other than me.’
4. Online terrorism against a teacher who explained the women's suffrage movement during World War I and said, "If you want to have rights, you must also have obligations" even in modern times.
5. Spreading voyeurism of men
6. Internet public opinion manipulation (weather news - I don't know why it's weather news, news covering cases of men being sexually assaulted, etc.)
7. Accusing an ordinary man of being a voyeur (according to an actual police investigation, 99% of the man's photos were of his family, including his children and wife)
8. A user who is a kindergarten teacher posted anonymously that she wanted to sexually harass and rape children.
9. Posting photos of boys’ genitals and sexual harassment
10. A post asking for congratulations because a male classmate committed suicide due to body cam phishing.
These are not all of the incidents in this site. Megalia is a serious site with many incidents that would have become serious problems even in foreign countries other than Korea.
