Players not understanding the impact of weapon levels, players not replacing their core set for appropriate golden items, newbs getting 2-shot by a dude with 3 goldens, how turning on additional info revolutionizes your game, quick casting off by default, a constant barrage of new characters so there is always one who hard-counters yoursm which does look like a bit too much in a FFA game
I love this game and i love the sense of improvement i get when learning something new, but even after a few hundred hours i do feel like i miss something important about it.
PS: Also, new build planner sucks, it is the first thing that made me want to drop the game
I've been matched with people who have the Immortal HONORARY Border, so when I see those people, I know it's a loss. I don't even want to try by then and most people I keep finding reach full build in 2 minutes. It's infuriating. (Note: EU Player. Every match is a 15-Man Match and most of the new characters are so oppressive, you can't play the old ones you've mastered a couple years ago as they're fully overwhelmed by the new blood's absurd potency. Very funny.)
This is by far not the reason, because they have exactly done advertisement. The issue is not in gaining players, it's in keeping them.

LoL and Dota2 have terrible new player experience, too. But they are team games. And I've become so jaded as to call it out as the reason they are popular - normies cannot deal with their own reflection.
Still, I will play ER because it's the only such game on this entire cursed planet - a competitive solo RTS battle royale.
I've been playing since the release and in total got about 20k NP for free. And that's just the blue ones, there will be more if I add the green ones.
