This is a complex and subjective question: someone likes the trilogy, someone does not like it.
Its usually considered the best trilogy of the Atelier games series. If your options are Steam or PC its definately the best trilogy, since Dusk isnt available on those systems (yet?)
As some of the other posts mention, its not needed to play the other games in order to start with this one. They are only loosely related (some characters appear in multiple games, and have some backstory in previous games etc). Lulua is very related to the other 3 games but its still just character relations. Playing Lulua first wouldnt make you feel lost, but rather make you more interested in the previous games I think.
This series is expensive one. If I haven't had unexpected money, I would buy only Lulua
