Unsouled is a combo-based hack and slash action game. The game is not easy, the timing of inputs are too unforgiving unless you put the time in to master it.
Think a budget isometric Sekiro meets Hyperlight Drifter. Meaning you will be panic parrying and spamming dash to try and not die at times.
Most won't make it very far and give up despite being only 5 hours long. I played through it three times as I really enjoyed it. You need to play it twice to get two optional bosses and are totally worth it.

Unsouled has as story, but like most games, it ain't worth talking about.
You unlock new abilities as you play and use to fill out your combos, similar to Devil May Cry or Sifu.
The name of the game is chaining these abilities. You do this by using basic attack combos when your dude glows yellow and try to combo forever and fill up energy to use your abilities. Different difficulties change the timings, and there is no easy mode.
An example is a basic slash into a vortex to bring them close then force push them away, dash to kick one into a wall to do extra damage. It never got old chaining combos. In my 15 hours, I only twice was able to parry an arrow to instant kill the archer, but when it happened, I got hard. If you ever wanted to do the slice and dice a dozen guys in one combo thing that you see in animes and wish a game could do, this game does it.

You can't heal during boss fights, until you get a power later in the game that is a secret, and you have 3 seconds to heal. So.... basically all bosses will be really tough if you don't get good. I told you the game is tough. Each boss does drop a new power that are kind of like ultimates that are overpowered, but used very rarely, only one use during a boss fight, so no cheesing. Two from the optional bosses is an instant parry counter, and the other is a mark enemies with blood and then instant-kill them.
You can heal while fighting non-boss enemies as they drop stamina(for dodging) and healing orbs, so it's not totally unforgiving.
