The upside is in theory once the game is you know.. in good working order (whenever the hell that happens) you can just get the base game and earn everything else by playing (not sure how that would work for past seasons but screw it videogames got to make some money haha).
In BB3 you can get each team for "free" if you play enough during the seasons. And even if you can't do it, you can pay for them like you did in BB2. So no difference in that.
Onliest thing to gnarl on is, that BB3 had more free cosmetics from start on (you could earn Cyan (ingame currency) in BB2 to buy more, too). Since I don't care much about cosmetics, for me BB3 is the same in this regard as BB2.
Not really "free" though if you pay for a season pass.
Blood Bowl 3 will also offer a paid version of the Blood Pass which works much in the same way as PVP shooters such as Overwatch 2’s seasons. The paid element instantly unlocks the new team and offers additional awards on each level. This may be of concern for some players as BB3 will be a paid game at launch, however, developer Cyanide has stated that the game will release at a lower base cost and the paid pass is for additional cosmetics that will not give any players an unfair advantage."
As far as I understand it, there IS a Blood Pass with every season. One for all where you have to unlock stuff, and one you can buy for immediately unlucking all.
That's fine, but likely a grind. Its a bit like season passes in other games to require significant time investment and possible skill / luck ceilings to get over. Obviously a bit early to say at the moment, but cyanide are not setting a good standard or confidence with their current game / monetization model.
