But on the other hand you will eventually reach a point where your train speed outruns your capabilities of crafting / building / mining which therefore determines an end at some point. But this video about "beating" endless mode you've seen is basically optional and more of an easter egg rather than being the main goal for the endless mode.
TL;DR
This game is endless...ish
The end also counts towards your overall distanced achieved. You can always weigh the risks between reaching the Terminal Station now and earning your extra meters or gamble completing another station for another +35m to your overall distance. You could always fail completing that next station and then in hindsight, you would've been better off not gambling and just taking those extra meters in the first place.
