You will more or less constantly have to pick up and carry the animals back to the wagon, since they will get disconnected from the wagon after a while and will not follow the train automatically, eventually getting lost „off screen“, leaving you without a source of milk until you reach a new herd of animals.
The camels trod along with the train and remain permanently connected AND the camel milk has the additional effect to allow you to carry up to 12(!) resources at once... Damn I love the details in this game.
