Classic mode online (lvl 9+) is not funny and i don´t think it will ever be^^
The only thing I can really say, is the (general) simplicity of the mechanics (drop limited-variation blocks to form shapes) allows for you as a player to grow in skill far beyond what you would imagine. One minute CLASSIC (much harder) speed 9 is too fast, the next you're capable of 15. One minute you don't use your hold piece that often, the next it takes you .5 seconds to not only switch to your hold piece, but know exactly where it goes and drop it. It might not come overnight, but if you simply keep playing what's enjoyable, and occasionally push yourself to the next speed (try no-Tetris, just clear lines instead!), you'll find yourself outgrowing your previous perception of what is fast.
Also, consider that the zone mechanic for advanced players is a high-score boon, but beginner / intermediate, it's actually a REALLY powerful life savor that allows you to clean up your board, get down low, and stand a fighting chance at your max speeds.
I have a lot of respect for that kind of devotion, although I really lack the understanding why you guys enjoy it.
Cheers.
It goes for everything, really.
Personally, I am no good at the higher speeds. But I can understand that people handle it much better than I can and enjoy it. There are other things I am faster at others and bothered when things are slow, but this isn't one of them. ^_^
First Steam award I've ever handed out, but I appreciate the very real, honest breakdown of humanity. It might seem like silly common sense to many, but your tone and presentation of a direct hit answer, combined with my sweet sip of morning coffee, tickled my heart <3
Speed levels themselves are really just a testament to how fast you can play the game and really don't mean anything other than that. I wouldn't stress too much over them. I used to barely be able to play past 10 a year ago but can play the website version of tetris comfortably until 23 now. It really just is up to how fast you can place blocks and not how fast the blocks themselves are going.
