$30 for Tetris, no matter how jazzed up it is, is not appealing

When I saw this, I clicked it thinking it would be fun to play Tetris again and expected it to be around $5, maybe $10 as a new release.

But $30 for a Tetris revamp with some pretty graphics, new modes and a multiplayer is just insane. We're talking about an almost half-century-old game that most of us got bundled with Gameboys in the 80s and played primarily on the toilet whilst dropping deuces.

You can buy pretty versions of Tetris on Google Play and the App Store for a couple bucks these days as well.

The new graphics are pretty, the new game modes look fun, and the competitive element is cool, but I don't know how a $30 price tag is justified when some huge open-world games with long development times cost that much or less on sale.

I'd love to try this game, but not at this price point.

The regular price is $40 which is even more insane. The single player gameplay doesn't seem to be anything different. It's the same basic tetris. No different modes, mechanics, special blocks, etc. I'm guessing the majority of the fun is in the co-op/multiplayer modes. You can watch gameplay of it here:

It's tetris but with a variety of music and flashy graphics that looks like it's made for the ADHD crowd. It's all style and the same basic substance (at least the single player). If you can justify paying this much for tetris then you can fool yourself into paying any price.

I remember playing Bloxeed back in the day which was tetris with power blocks. If you cleared a line that had a power block you could get special items like a bomb to blow up an area of blocks, a 16 ton weight that would remove 3 columns, a satellite that can destroy blocks, a bird that added block bits, etc. That was a simple but fun and different take on tetris.

I think it's a fair price point. You said it yourself, pretty graphics and looks fun. I'll gladly pay a little more money to show the publisher and dev team that, yes, if you pour more heart & soul into a game like Tetris, people will support it. Otherwise, your main options are with games like "Puyo Puyo Tetris" or "Gamer Girls [18+]: eSports SEX" on Steam.

To those of you coming across this thread who have not played the game yet - please do give it a chance. I guarantee you will find out that this game is worth the asking price. Perhaps look at some Youtube videos if you are unsure.

A lot of love and care went into this game. It is not "just Tetris". Journey mode is a beautiful feast for the senses. Multiplayer is a polished cross platform experience with many modes on offer.

This is so far removed from your typical app store Tetris. Just try it.
