Years after the day she was sent away to the scorching desert of Misrule, Lina still troubled by the fact that Rylai was always her parents' favorite.
It all started one day when everyone found out that her little sister had a precious gift - the power to control Ice. Thanks to that power, her sister Rylai would become the center of attention. At first, Lina was truly happy for her sister, she was proud that her little sister was special. However, that feeling didn't last long, as she would be compared to Rylai on a daily basis, even her parents seemed to favor Rylai over her. That was - the one little spark that would later become the burning flame of jealousy inside of Lina.
Jealous, angered, ignored, Lina thought to herself that life was so unfair. Why only her sister? Why not her instead? Those thoughts got stronger and stronger with each compliment from other people towards Rylai. Those thoughts - burning hot inside Lina - as if they were real flame, until one day they manifested as real hot, bright flame. And Lina thought - with this, she would be special, she would be noticed, she would get along well with her sister, and her parents would not neglect her again. However, things wouldn't go so well.
Ice could be used to comfort people, Fire - though necessary - was harder to use. At times she would unintentionally burn other people or houses, and Rylai would be the one to fix the problems she caused. People treated Lina and her power as a nuisance while treating Rylai and her power as a gift. That fueled Lina's jealousy towards Rylai even more, and after that she would get into fights with her little sister, again and again, sometimes destroying their houses in the process. Little did she know that those fights were the very reason that the young Rylai became emotionally unstable, and ultimately lost control of her power.
Fed up with both of their daughters, the saddened parents sent Lina far away to the harsh desert of Misrule and Rylai to the cold northern realm of Icewrack. Still burning with jealousy and anger, Lina tried and tried to improve herself, mastering her power over fire. She swore to herself that one day, she will prove to not only her parents, not only to her little sister Rylai, but also to the whole world that she is the better one, both in power and beauty.
