I solved it without that second cube also, not sure how it could be used.

Cool fun map !
Raven_of_Might Jul 30, 2013 @ 8:28am
Nevermind =/ When you place the cube in front of that final wall, it stops you from being able to get through the final door -_-. I still have no idea how that normal cube is at All used outside of its original room =\. Sorry l1zardr0ckets.
Raven_of_Might Jul 30, 2013 @ 8:01am
I think I understand how your supposed to use that 2nd box now... it was intended to block the final lazer from hitting the lazer node against the final wall? Because (Spoiler) then it turns off both of the thick lazer grids in front of the exit? If THAT was the purpose xD, then 2 simple redesigns I think could really help make that more obvious & help with what u've built =D.

#1 simply change the order in which those Thick lazer walls Turn Off -- Place the 1st one that will turn off in the front, and then when the lazer hits the node in the back, the wall switches to the 2nd area (so it Seems like we're "Making progress", at least -- it's just not enough yet =P. AND, it removes the ability to accidentally solve it =D )

& 2ndly, place the Lazer Lightbulb outside, closer to the Wall (as I suggested)-- possibly with just enough room for a Cube to be placed there =D. Maybe create a fancy texture square for the floor to show something goes there =P. xD.

I really hope that helps ^_^

Great job!
So far Gon Jul 25, 2013 @ 5:35pm
good map. it is kind of like something that would be in the real game. plus i actually did not have any problem finding out what to do and i had the same feeling i have while playing through some of the built in levels.
Core Jul 25, 2013 @ 3:13pm
I don't think I used the standard cube at all.
Andi Jul 25, 2013 @ 11:19am
Great chamber, loved it from start to finish. Excellent job, thumbs up.

Would you mind trying one of mine? It's a bit tricky.

I'm giving this a thumbs up because overall I enjoyed playing it but I can see in general where Raven_of_Might is coming from. I was never really sure that what I was doing was leading me towards the solution and when I made it out it did feel like an accident. In other words, I hadn't planned and worked for the solution that happened. The chamber is fun to play because of the visual effects, but it's not rewarding in the sense that you put thought and skill into it and get back results that clearly advance you towards the solution.

My escape-themed chamber, " The Oubliette ", is large and quite difficult, with deadly traps. It is not for beginners.

In defense of Raven, It is the creator's job to create a chamber that can be done in no other way than it is supposed to be done. I did it the way it was intended to be done I think. I really loved it, it made me keep getting back for stuff when I thought I finally had it. Layout is awesome. The line Glados says 2 times should be fixed in my opinion though. I didn't notice her interrupting Cave, coz I have played so much that he seem to be out of speaches :( I miss his voice when i start a new chamber...
Shane  [author] Jul 23, 2013 @ 5:19pm
@Raven_of_Might from the looks of it, you didn't beat the test chamber the right way somehow. You are supposed to use both cubes and the puzzle should not be too confusing. The solutions is pretty clear so you must have done something way off course to solve it.
Raven_of_Might Jul 23, 2013 @ 1:28pm
(continued...)
The way you made this puzzle was very inventive, interesting, and creative, without a doubt. I really liked it for that pure inventiveness in design alone, despite its sometimes frustrating & confusing aspects. I'd like to see what your able to do in the future, and I hope to see this test chamber improved a bit -- so that I can run through it & enjoy the layout you created with others =).

I hope the comment helps & the length keeps people who don't want to know how to solve the puzzle away from reading it all =P =).

But if you solved the puzzle & have complaintive thoughts too xD, maybe some of what I said covers ur thoughts as well =).

#4 And if the extra portal cube is Supposed to serve no realistic purpose outside of its original room, besides for us trying to take it out with us and it then being emancipated -- then at least change it into a Heart Cube. That way, we perceive it as our only friend who we're supposed to try to take out with us, as opposed to it just being a functional tool we're supposed to use & leave somewhere on the course. That's why the only time the Heart Cube appears during testing in the Portal 2 game, is on the level where we can potentially escape with it to the elevator =].

Either that, or make one of the lazer nodes higher than normal & only accessible by placing the testing cube underneath of the redirectional cube. But, you'd have to redesign even more of the room if you wanted to make that happen & be functional for all testers, so the Other idea is probably better. You could use that 2nd idea for Another testing room though.
Raven_of_Might Jul 23, 2013 @ 1:23pm
-sigh- All those extra steps in the test, turned out be completely pointless besides for maybe teaching us that you could shoot through lazers, and allowing u to hear extra Glados lines when the cube emancipates =/.

#3 The little ground lazer's lightbulb located in the middle of the first necessary testing area, was the first unresolved thing I had to walk away from, so it was the first thing I went back to try & take care of, once I got the redirectional cube. That's how I noticed the Metal Grating on the side, and accidentally solved the course early, and unsatisfied. Maybe place the ground lazer lightbulb outside of the emancipation field, in the middle of the walk way which leads out towards the exit, and remove or increase the height of the white walls located in the corner before the thick lazers & exit (that way testers Have to place the portal where you want it in order to get to the exit =] ). That could help with Testers not figuring out the solution early.
Raven_of_Might Jul 23, 2013 @ 1:22pm
As I tried to figure out the nxt step to take, with the multiple areas the redirected lazer could possibly go to/through (a bit frustrating, btw, having that 1st now useless lazer node not at all removed, or somehow maybe separated from the one needed for the "Next Step" we might "need"), I ended up seeing accidentally that I could shoot my portal through the Lazers & metal grating next to the 1st testing area, and I accidentally Solved the Puzzle. I thought it had to be an unintended glitch in the room design. So I confusedly went back into the room, in order to try and solve it "the right way". I still hadn't figured out what those other things were needed for, right? So it had to be a glitch.

Got back into the room, and tried fiddling with where the lazer would go, in sincere confusion, trying to figure where that extra cube could go or what I was possibly missing. Finally figured out how to extract the other cube, back to the center of the room! And found out... it had no purpose
Raven_of_Might Jul 23, 2013 @ 1:22pm
Sorry, that 1st part of the comment I'm trying to post on here seems to constantly glitch out in the paragraph area for whatever reason =o. I deleted & reposted it several times & I couldn't fix it up xD. I'm going to keep going with the rest of the message now =]. But I thought I should appologize for the seemingly weird "Double content" in the post first =).
Raven_of_Might Jul 23, 2013 @ 1:12pm
This Puzzle had a few problems with it =/ which all combind to make me generally just really unhappy with it =[.
#1 Though the dialogue was funny + well chosen =], As other people mentioned though, Glados is speaking a bit over Cave's speech in the beginning, and She repeats the line ... I'm gonna paraphrase this... "This test was designed to study how test subjects respond to testing along side deadly thermal lazers" at least twice, every time I tried playing. I don't know if that's on purpose, but its small details (not Too annoying), could be changed easily enough =].
#2 The Puzzle design itself left me so confused & frustrated about the creator's Intended direction for us as testers. The 1st time I went through it, I got the Blue Portal Gun, & noticed that the button near by it could get rid of the emancipation grid, so I assumed that I needed to Come Back for That Box to complete the puzzle in some way (that's the only logical reason I could see for u placing a big button there).
Raven_of_Might Jul 23, 2013 @ 1:05pm
Hey, I'm about to post several comments that all make up 1 long comment =P. Feel free not to read them all if you don't want to know how the puzzle can be solved or to know the frustrating confusion I suffered from this puzzle xD. These 'comments' are for the Puzzle's Creator, and are meant to help display a tester's point of view in the course & ways the course could be improved to help increase overall satisfaction with the puzzles comletion :3. Thanks for reading =].

Great work with the Portal1 style. The chamber was pretty simple, as you said. I didn't really like the fact that you don't even need to get the box out the room to finish the test. ( Or I don't know if I didn't do it the right way lol ). Also, at the begining GLaDOS says something 2 time in a row. But I liked it.

I recorded my blind play, here's the link : {LINK REMOVED}

@dues warm lights work fine for me.

@dante thank you!!!
Nobody No-One Jul 21, 2013 @ 11:23am
Nice map. @ryanznock, he/she can't delay the glados line, it's a default part of bee2.
Very good puzzle.
dues Jul 21, 2013 @ 7:35am
Yeah, my warm lights render as regular white lights. I'm still trying to figure it out.
Shane  [author] Jul 21, 2013 @ 1:27am
@dues the warm lights man :D That should do the trick!!
dues Jul 20, 2013 @ 11:26pm
Thanks lizard. I found it was the portal 1 style. I used it for my map. How did you get that fancy orange trim around all your objects??? Mine didn't do that. I like your map. It's pretty, and not as simple as you make it out to be ;)
Shane  [author] Jul 20, 2013 @ 2:29pm
@dues I did use BEE2, I'm not sure where i found it... but it is there
dues Jul 20, 2013 @ 2:20pm
Did you only use BEE2 or did you use Hammer. I was looking for that style in BEE2 and couldn't find it.
ryanznock Jul 20, 2013 @ 12:59am
Not too shabby, though you end up with a leftover cube at the end. Also, perhaps delay GLaDOS's speech at the beginning to give Cave Johnson time to finish _his_ spiel.
