Arrowsmith: Vanilla Edition v.3d

Arrowsmith allows you to craft arrows in bundles of 50.

The Vanilla Edition works with Dawnguard, but you should use the Dawnguard Edition instead.

Do not use both editions at the same time.

Invincible Hawk Fix is now built in to Arrowsmith but still available separately.

Click the Subscribe button above.
Skyrim's launcher will automatically download the mod.
Click Data Files in the launcher and checkmark Arrowsmith.esp.

Q: Where do I get Fletchings?
A: See the Recipes section below.

Q: How do I pluck Chicken Feathers?
A: Target a living chicken and press your Use/Activate key (E by default) as if you were trying to talk to them. You can also kill chickens and loot the feathers, but the villagers generally don't like that.

Q: Nothing happens when I press the Use/Activate key on a living chicken.
A: There are several possibile fixes:
Fix 1: Leave the area (fast travel) and come back. This will force the chicken(s) in the area to reload with the new plucking script attached to them. This mainly happens when you load a save that already had non-pluckable chickens loaded (eg. loaded it immediately after installing the mod).
Fix 2: Disable other mods that also modify chickens or re-order the load order so that Arrowsmith takes priority. Any mod that modifies the EncChicken actor or ChickenRace race will conflict with Arrowsmith.
Fix 3: One user reported that unsubscribing from the mod and then re-subscribing made it work.

Q: I don't see the Fletchings option at the tanning rack.
A: You need at least one of the materials (feathers) for it to appear.
Reason: It's similar to leather in that there are multiple ways to make leather (different animal hides) so most of them are hidden unless you have one of the materials.

Q: Why do hawks disappear when I shoot them?
A: Your Object Fade/View Distance is too low. Turn it up in the launcher settings or the game settings.
Reason: Hawks are moving world objects rather than normal NPCs/actors. The game replaces the hawk with a lootable object (container) when you shoot it. If your object view distance is low, you won't be able to see the newly spawned object unless you are close to where it falls.

Q: Why doesn't my HUD's equipped arrow count update when I make new arrows?
A: This is a known bug that I haven't been able to figure out how to fix. It's present in Dawnguard without mods as well (even the 360 version too) and not specific to this mod.

Q: Can you remove the perk requirements?
A: I will not, but you can using the Creation Kit if you want.

Q: Will you add _____ arrows?
A: I will not add arrows that aren't already in the game, such as Dragon Arrows.
Arrows that are already in the game, but not in this mod (Forsworn, Falmer, etc) won't be added either.
This mod is meant to fit the existing smithing design and not add random things.

Q: Can I translate this mod to another language?
A: Yes, but the mod must be uploaded to Steam Workshop, credit must be given to me for the original version.

Q: It's called fletching / fletcher.
A: I know. The name is intentional.

Q: What about arrows from the Dragonborn DLC?
A: I might make a mod for it, similar to the Dawnguard Edition, but it's not a high priority as Dragonborn only adds 2 craftable arrows.

Q: Will you upload this mod to Nexus?
A: No.

  • Iron, Steel, and Ancient Nord arrows now require Fletchings, as Fletchings are easier to obtain now.
    
  • All Firewood requirements reduced to 2 Firewood per 50 arrows/bolts (down from 5 Firewood).

  • Hawks are no longer invincible (separate invincible hawk fix mod no longer needed)
    
  • Chicken plucking reworked:
    • They now have a "talk" prompt like normal NPCs.
      
    • Talking to them brings up their inventory so you can loot feathers.
      
    • They regrow feathers at a rate of 1 feather per day and can have a maximum of 12 feathers.
      (They stop growing feathers at 12 but will start growing again if you loot them.)
      
    • And just for fun, they also squawk when you pluck them.
