Mercury to Mars: The Mod - OBSOLETE

Description
UPDATE: Apparently, this was broken with a recent update. I will be revisiting it once the modded versions of the planets are complete.

Due to the size of the files for this mod and current modding limitations, it requires separate download and installation - see the installation instructions section below. If you'd prefer not to mess with game files, there is a World Save version still available (link below.) The major difference is that the World Save has default diameters for planets and moons.

This mod is based on the Mercury To Mars World Save and adds a new scenario to bottom of the list in the New World > Custom World menu.

This new scenario simulates the distances between the first four planets in our solar system - Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars, as well as the moons of Earth and Mars. The positions of each planet have been calculated based on where the actual planets would be in relation to one another on 17 Sept, 2082. The distance is 1/5000 scale for gameplay purposes. If you start the world with Sun Rotation off, the planets and sun will all be lined up as you see in the mod's thumbnail image. Each planet and moon has a diameter relative to its real life counterpart. Gravity also matches the real life gravity of these planets and moons.

The plan is to develop and expand this mod - making Venus and Mercury look more like their real life counterparts and also expanding to include the entire solar system. The positions the rest of the planets have been established, I just have to create files.

Installation Instructions
You will need to know where Space Engineers is installed and where the Mods folder is located. Be sure to make backup copies of PlanetGenerationsDefinitions.sbc and Scenarios.sbx files. I will not be responsible for any errors you make in installation.

  1. Download the mod from here: Mercury To Mars[www.dropbox.com]
  2. Extract the archive.
  3. Open the mod's folder.
  4. Copy the "PreviewMercuryToMars.dds" file.
  5. Paste it in the Content\Textures\GUI\Icons\scenarios folder where Space Engineers is installed.
  6. Open the Data folder in the Mod.
  7. Copy "PlanetGenerationDefinitions.sbc" and "Scenarios.sbx".
  8. Paste them in the Content\Data folder where Space Engineers is installed.
  9. Open the PlanetDataFiles folder in the Mod.
  10. Copy all of the planet folders.
  11. Paste them all in the Content\Data\PlanetDataFiles folder where Space Engineers is installed.
  12. Launch Space Engineers.
  13. Select New World.
  14. Select Custom World.
  15. Scroll to the bottom of the list and you will see the new scenario.

Please subscribe and rate if you enjoy this. Once Keen releases their modding guide, this mod will be updated.

IMPORTANT!: If you are having issues with the sun disappearing, edit the SANDBOX 0_0_0.sbc for the save and change the SunAzimuth to 0 and SunElevation to 1.57. This should bring the sun back. I'm not sure why it gets set to NaN, but it shouldn't. This is a quick, easy workaround that issue.

This is old and has been replaced by a version with modded planets.

Bump! This could really still benefit the community a lot!

Really cool that you are working again.
Your version of this modification WIP was so far the best, everything can be set in their own way and generate a new world and without errors.
I look forward to your new work and greet.

@TiGeR - Thanks for letting me know. Dangers of modding an alpha. lol. I'm working on the modded versions of Mercury, Mars, and Venus. As soon as those are finished and up, I am going to be revisiting these worlds anyway. Hopefully, this will all be rectified soon. Thanks again.

Hello
Unfortunately, this method does not work anymore.
Probably a point 7 which now replaces the files in the original game needs.

I've done it before and it worked out great now while charging turns the message that the world is corrupt and can not be loaded, no other save is not working and no new game is always the same message. You need to enable file check to repair the game. :(

Nice to see you also included mars' satellites! People tend to forget...

@K1II3rM - this isn't a mod in the tradtitional sense. If you read the instructions, you will see that it's more complicated than that. If you replace the modded PlanetGeneratorDefinitions and Scenarios.sbx with the originals and then open a save, the game won't load the modded planets. Yes, everyone in a server needs to add these files. Until we see how Keen will implement planet modding, that's just the way it is for now.
