s7o's Forgotten Places ~ Irontree Mill

Description
s7o's Forgotten Places ~ Irontree Mill 1.01
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Forgotten Places re-establishes
abandoned places from remainders
in Skyrim's vanilla game data.

Irontree Mill is a lumbermill in
Haafingar hold.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT & WHERE

FORGOTTEN PLACES
In Skyrim's game data, there's a couple of places that got abandoned, never
completed or otherwise didn't make it into the actual game.

The Forgotten Places series aims to mold what remainders i can find of
such places into actual game locations, in a coherent and lore friendly way.

IRONTREE MILL
Irontree Mill is a lumbermill, owned by two war veterans, and located in
Haafingar hold, west of Solitude and the Thalmor embassy, which has
been taken over by bandits from nearby Ironback Hideout.

After you've helped the rightful owners reclaim the mill, they will immediately
recommence business with all the usual lumbermill jobs available. Also, you
can get a little basement room of your own, and use the entire property as
a honorary member of the family.

QUEST
To start the quest, just carry on with your game, the quest will come to you
eventually (your game must be past the western watchtower scene).

if you're a peace runner or of otherwise non-violent nature, you'll
probably like to hear that the quest is entirely playable without a single
kill or even any bloodshed whatsoever. You'll find out how to do so while
you play, but if you prefer a couple spoiler (!) hints:
The bandit occupants are cowards. They'll flee to Ironback Hideout...
--- when they enter bleedout (or rather as soon as they'll exit it)
--- if their boss has fled or is dead (which may take them a while to notice
. . . though); since it's a joint operation of several gangs, each section has
. . . it' own boss. I'll leave it up to you to figure out who that is.
--- or if you make them, and it's easy. to find out how, just keep your eyes
. . . open while you play.
Once a bandit is fleeing, dont hit (or let your followers hit) them with anything
else than another fear spell before they've reached Ironback Hideout, or
they'll re-enter combat.

...or you also can just commit a blood bath of course...

WHAT WAS THERE in vanilla game data
.) The "Irontree Mill" location, owning 1 exterior cell
.) The owners, the war veteran brothers Trilf and Steirod
.) Some clutter, like a key, a couple dialogue lines etc

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LOAD ORDER & COMPATIBILITY

Irontree Mill adds a little river from Ironback Hideout all the way north down
to the sea. If you use any other mods altering landscape or navmesh in that
area, please put Irontree Mill after these in your load order.

Since this mod restores unused _vanilla_ content, it might conflict with other
mods that restore the same content.

Unlocks 2 additional Cache Sacks

Much appreciated in 2021. Bethesda should have kept this in the game; Haafingar needs more settlements. Still looking for chest keys lol.

Sorry - been too long since I played and I can't remember now!

@ carrier of echoes: thx, glad you enjoyed it :-)
about missing voice lines, it should be fully voiced for all i remember (recycled vanilla voice bits), what was missing?

Enjoyed this, especially the lush detail of the interiors with many hidden treasures. Apart from missing voice lines the whole thing felt like it could have been part of the official game.

@ kurtrhinehart: sry for late answer, i'm not on steam that much currently
yep, the quest is triggered by entering irontree mill location, and that's a vanilla location (and the cell it's in in my mod is the actual "irontree mill" cell from vanilla game data), so if more than 1 mod uses it, i guess the later one in your load order will "get" it.
glad you could solve it anyway :-)

It's okay, I've worked out the problem. I have been using another mod called "Cutting Room Floor" which includes Iron Tree Mill and its characters but in a location south of Dragonbridge. For some reason approaching this mill triggers the quest. I temporarily disabled it and was able to complete this mod successfuly. Quest played out well, good job. A:whiterun: nicely done little mod :)

Afraid the quest is bugged. I speak to Trilf and head to the mill, but the bandits never show up. I go into the mill and Trilf and his brother are already there. There is no option to complete the quest I am afraid.

Thanks. Read the name, but this was some time ago so have forgotten it. Anyway, just curious. Good work!

@ bdubs: haven't noticed anything specifically remainder like looking in the area, you happen to know a name or any other further details? anything you got increases odds to find it in the editor.

...as for bringing it to life, i doubt so. originally, i planned on returning to skyrim for a bit whenever i needed a break from modding fo4, but now with the game (and with it the remaining user base) split in 2, and me not having the super-duper-edition or whatever the name is, i actually don't really think it's worth the effort to start something new

I read somewhere that there was going to be a market just down the road from Lakeview near the lumber mill that never made it into the game. It was to be a open air lakeside market. I was curious if you know anything about that and thought about bringing it to life?
