They came at dusk, a fleet upon wing, with only the faintest flutter to mark their passing. The Prophet smiled, glad of their company, for the woods were deep as the nights were long. He lit his staff and bade them stay a while, to tell their tales and share their song.

He listened as they whispered, their strange tongue revealing fortunes and follies, distant lands and shifting sands. When it came his turn to entertain, he told them of the Sun and Moon, lovers separated by a world and eternity. The creatures fell silent one by one, captivated by his fable. Their eyes passed from his to the moon far above, and they too felt the sadness of unrequited love.

Dawn broke and the Prophet made to leave. He rose and saw to his amazement that gifts had come from those he'd made so welcome. You'll never walk alone, said a lingering whisper in the dew soaked air, as he shouldered his new cloak and felt a peculiar breeze stir.
