Don't Starve: Essential mods
By Urist McSpiff
I'm not one for mods. Even if they seem really cool when I read about em, when I install them I get bored fast and have more fun with the vanilla game. Don't starve is a bit of an exception for me, and here are (In my opinion) the best mods.

Pipe
The pipe mod is one of the first one I played with. Its also one of my favorite. most of the mods on this list are small, and just add some more variety to the game. IMO the game is pretty perfect as is, so theres nothing to gamechanging on this list. The pipe mod allows you to craft a nice and classy pipe with some twigs and grass. Smoking the pipe lowers your hunger, but gives you sanity and health. Very useful, but pretty balanced. The mod works great, and I love the art.

10/10, highly recommended. So simple, but so nice.

Pickle It
This is the most game changing/biggest mod on this list, and another one of my favorites. Basically, it adds some new vegetables (Beets, Cabbages, Cucumbers, onions, etc.) and a pickle barrel. You can put food into a pickle barrel and in 3 days it will be pickled. Pickling makes food last longer, and its a really nice addition.

8/10, really nice addition, the art is pretty good.

More Realistic Honey
Another very simple mod, it just makes honey more realistic. In real life, honey never really spoils, but it does crystalize, which can be fixed with heat. Instead of spoiling in this mod, honey crystalizes and if you cook crystalized honey on a camp fire it goes back to regular honey. Its that simple.

9/10, mmm honey..

Camp Cuisine
Camp cuisine. It adds more crock pot recipes. Simple but awesome variety. It adds in 14 recipes, from pumpkin pie, to eel head stew, it's a lot of fun to try and make all the recipes.

9/10, lots of fun and pretty good art.

The end
Thank you for reading! This is just my opinion on the best mods to download before you start playing, because they add a lot more variety to the game and are in general quite fun. These are my favorites, but theres a few other mods I like (Mostly characters) and I might put together a list of those later. Thanks, hope you enjoyed :)

As a new player, I found this guide very helpful. I think I'd also include the minimap HUD, Display Food Values, and the one that forces Hunger, Sanity, and Health values to always display. Other than that, thanks for the guide! :dshound:

If you haven't tried it yet, you could try the Pets mod. They increase your Sanity if treated correctly, and you lose it if they are treated poorly or die. An interesting balance between feeding your pet for Sanity or feeding yourself to survive. Some pets can also fight, if you want that.

These look fun, and not overpowered at all. Tossing my own opinion in here...I think you should add the minimap hud mod....and as someone else mentioned, the display food values mod. Two mods I don't know what I would do without. :claugh:

I can recommend damage indicators also, very useful for tracking how much hp does enemy's have left. Wiki tells you their max health, then you just count.
