[SP/CO 09] Escape Drakontas

Description
Co-operative defense mission for 1 to 9 players. Suits smaller squads of around 2 to 5. Designed for multi-player, works in single-player.

A small NATO team must hold off insurgents until escape is possible. Can you hold out against the waves of enemies?

Mission Features
  • Requires no addons.
  • Join-in-progress compatible.
  • Respawn enabled (multiplayer only). Choose to respawn at one of three points.
  • Fight of waves of randomised enemy infantry, with the waves slowly increasing in frequency as the mission progresses. Watch out for the occasional motorised unit!
  • Enemy squad sizes are random, but depend on the number of players. More players equals more enemies.
  • Adjust enemy squad sizes and enemy skill with multiplayer parameters.
    • Squad sizes can be cranked up to ridiculous levels.
    • Having performance trouble with so many soldiers? Lower the enemy count but increase skill for a leaner, meaner game.
  • Enemy artillery will fire smoke rounds to cover the enemy advance. They will occasionally try to hit you with live rounds -- watch for the red signal smoke!
    • The frequency of live rounds can be adjusted with a multiplayer parameter. It is fairly unlikely in single-player.
  • Change mission timings with multiplayer parameters. Change the time you have to prepare, and the time you have to hold out for. Make it anything from a ten-minute "quickie" to an hour-long marathon.
  • Virtual Arsenal[arma3.com] at all spawns. But don't expect every weapon in the game to be available, just the basics.
  • Set up mortars, machine guns and sniper nests. But be careful -- this equipment is limited!
  • Use your mine-filled truck to quickly deploy mine-fields where you think the enemy will attack.
  • Corpse clean-up will remove the bodies of your enemies to keep the server running smooth.
    • Or, if you like to see a littered battlefield, this feature can be disabled (multiplayer only).
  • The mission can be won if just a single player escapes, but a bonus objective exists if you can get everyone to safety (multiplayer only).

I tried it in SP and while the concept per se is great, half my squad does not follow me into the rocks... the terrain is just not conductive to operating with the AI. I would not suggest to play it in SP.

Hey man, just letting you know that my clan and I played your mission and had a blast. I recorded and uploaded the mission to youtube, and have given full credit to you in the description. Here is the video if you'd like to take a look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7kEL97ndhPk

Thanks again for the awesome mission!

The bug related to Virtual Arsenal, which I mention in a below comment, has been fixed thanks to the release of ArmA 3 v1.32 [dev.arma3.com].

This mission should be fully playable again. As always, please let me know if you spot any problems!

There is a bug in the latest version of ArmA that prevents Virtual Arsenal from working. As this mission would be difficult to play without Virtual Arsenal I suggest people don't play it for now.

Supposedly the bug will be fixed in the next version. Read more here [feedback.arma3.com]. Maybe I will implement a workaround in the meantime. Either way, I will try to remember and post here when it's working again.

@hangfire Great idea. Someday I might get around to integrating Zeus into a mission and this mission would make a good candidate.

Zeus would be a good addition to the map, both for defence and offence sides. It'd be good to be able to set up physical defences as Zeus, place AI guards, and it'd be a good option to have the attacking force controlled by Zeus.

This mission has been updated! Major changes include use of Virtual Arsenal [arma3.com] (replacing Virtual Ammobox) and addition of live-round artillery barrages. See the change notes for more details.

If you enjoy the mission, please take the time to rate up. And keep the feedback coming, especially if you spot a bug. :)
