Introduction
Maya, The Siren, is one of most versatile classes in the game. Maya can easily be played as support healing class and a damage class. Her skillset allows her to use elemental affects much more efficiently compared with most of the other classes. This guide will be discussing a couple of general builds for Maya.

Phaselock
Probably the best versatile action skill. Phaselock when used on enemies locks enemies in another dimension, rendering them immobile for a short period of time. Can be used for offensive, defensive and supportive action skill. Used for visually marking targets, stopping an enemy and Resing teammates.
Support Build
Maya - The Support Siren

In this build I focus on healing and Resing teammates while being able to use slag to enhance my teammate's damage capabilities. This build is mainly focused on multiplayer play.

Playstyle
This build focuses on Resing and slagging enemies at the same time. For this build, when initiating a fight, phaselock should be used right away on a group of enemies to stun them, and putting them in a tighter group with the converge skill. A good slag weapon can but used to spray enemies with slag which allows your teammates to deal more damage. After initiation, phaselock should be reserved for Resing teammates, however if your team is not taking much damage, phaselock can be used again on enemies. When phaselocking, the override melee skill should be used on the phaselocked enemies to slag a large group after converge has activated.

During bossfights, phaselock should be used solely on teammates if the boss cannot be phaselocked. Slag weapons should be used on the bosses and with the Flicker skill, a slag SMG should have at least a 70% chance to slag.

Skills

Items
Maya Healing Item Layout
Solo Damage Build
Maya - The Black Widow

This build focuses on a mix of damage and elemental damage that allows for good consistant damage meant for solo and less of multiplayer play. This build aims for a max of +180% damage bonus in conjunction with items such as the Bee shield and Sandhawk

Playstyle
This guide focuses on damage using Maya's skillset and some items. Using these items however, this build requires very conservative gameplay. Because of the long recharge delay on the Bee, the skill Ward cuts down the delay, however it is still a lengthy delay. Sitting behind cover and peeking out to deal massive damage is the suggested playstyle with this build, as this build is not catered to soak up damage

Multiplayer Siren Build
Maya - The Femme Fatale

This build focuses on a mix of damage and elemental damage that allows for good consistant damage meant for multiplayer play. The difference between the Multiplayer build and solo build is the incorperation of Res and some team healing in the Multiplayer build This build aims for a bonus of +180% damage bonus in conjunction with items such as the Bee shield and Sandhawk

Playstyle
This build allows for massive damage, however the downside is that you cannot take as much damage. Playing in multiplayer, Commando should throw down their turret or a Gunzerker should Gunzerker to tank damage in an enemy infested area. This will make enemies focused on players or turrets that can take damage. Solo play tactics also work for this multiplayer siren build. This build works best with teams with a dedicated slagger.

Items
Maya Damage Item Layout
Maya Healing Item Layout
The Maya Healing Item layout consists of specific roles for specific types of weapons.

Weapon Layout
  • Rocket Launcher
  • Slag Weapon
  • Team Healing Weapon
  • Self Healing Weapon
Rocket launchers are mainly used to get second winds and for a massivee AoE heal. Slag weapons are nessary in co-op play to enhance allie's overall damage output. Team healing weapons should be weapons that are easy to use to shoot at allies and heal them using restoration. Shotguns are excellent team healing weapons for their pellets and large bullet pattern. Moxxi weapons should be the dedicated self healing weapons.

Shields
Shields are very standard and don't have too much deviation. Any shields used should be level and special affect(if it does have any special effects) appropriate(for example don't use the Cradle in solo play).

Mod
Class mods suggested for Maya:
  • Binder
  • Nurse
  • Legendary Siren Mod
Binder class mods lower team action cooldown rates
Nurse class mods add team health regeneration
Legendary Siren Mod decreases cooldown rate, increased gun damage, movement speed when an enemy is Phaselocked and adds +5 to most basic skills

Grenades
Having good grenades can improve gameplay alot. Some good types of grenades are:
  • Transfusion
  • Singularity

Relics
Having relics that are appropriate for your playstyle is important. Some good types are:
  • Cooldown
  • Health
  • Shield Capacity
Maya Damage Item Layout (DLC)
The Maya Damage Item layout consists of specific roles for specific types of weapons.

Weapon Layout
  • Rocket Launcher
  • Sandhawk
  • Elemental Weapon/Secondary Weapon
  • Healing Weapon
Rocket launchers are mainly used to get Second Wind in this layout. Sandhawk a quest reward weapon from Captain Scarlett's DLC from the quest "Whoops", fires 8 bullets and should be either a normal or shock version. However paired with the legendary Bee shield, all 8 of its bullets are ampified. Elemental weapons can double as healing weapons and in this case a secondary damage weapon can be chosen.

Secondary weapons:
  • Legendary ♥♥♥♥♥ (Hyperion SMG)
  • Seraph Actualyzer
Healing weapons:
  • Bad Touch
  • Good Touch
  • Rubi
Shield

Legendary Bee
The Bee is an extremely powerful late game shield; ampifing damage when at full shields and having a 0 ampify drain, allows users to have ampified damage constantly, as long as their shields are full. This turns the user into essentially a glass cannon and should be used with caution, as it is easy to become damaged and downed because of the low shield capacity. The Bee is dropped from the Hunter Hellquist found in Arid Nexus - Boneyard.

Mod
This mod contributes to overall damage
  • Cat
Cat mods have a max of 95% extra damage towards SMGs

Grenades
Having good grenades can improve gameplay alot. Some good types of grenades are:
  • Transfusion
  • Singularity
  • MIRV
Relics
These relics contributes to overall damage
  • Manufacturer/Damage
  • SMG damage
Manufacture damage and SMG damage relics have a max of 30% extra damage towards manufacted weapons or SMGs

IMHO sweet release is always a good idea, being able to heal yourself up is invaluable, especially for those who are new to the Siren class. What I♥♥♥ about Maya is her skill trees cater to every player under the sun! :D

What level do you need to be at for these. Also, a level guide would be nice

Whats up with those melee upgrades? Since when a melee upgrade is good on Maya? Also not upgrading chain reaction and wreck?
These are major flaws.

That's just my preference. You may find betties work for you really well, but I like using other grenades for my playstyle.
