Play COOP with 5-8 players in one game! (OLD)

A tutorial on how to play BL2 with more than 4 players (old method)

Prerequisites

UPDATED GUIDE AVAILABLE HERE!

• All copies of Borderlands 2 need console enabled
  
• The host needs to have port 7777 forwarded to their PC (if playing online/not locally)
  
• My COOP patch for Borderlands 2[github.com]

Alternatively, instead of port forwarding, everyone can use a VPN like Hamachi, Tunngle, or Evolve to connect to the host.

I RECCOMEND BACKING UP YOUR CHARACTER FIRST JUST TO BE SAFE

How to host

• Find and write down your IP. If you're using port forwarding instead of a VPN like Hamachi, you can use a website like IPChicken[www.ipchicken.com] to look up your IP.
  
  
• Open your game and get to the main menu.
  
  
• Click "Network Options" and set your network mode to LAN
  
  
• Open console and type

  exec cooppatch.txt

  and press enter.
  
  
• Select the character you want to play as then click "Continue" to enter the game.
  
  
• You're done! You can now give the players your IP so they can connect.

How to join

• Make sure your console is enabled before you start.
  
  
• Open your game and get to the main menu.
  
  
• Click "Network Options" and set your network mode to LAN
  
  
  
  
• Select the character you want to play as then open up console.
  
  
• Type "open host's IP:7777" in console and press enter.
  
  
• DO NOT CLICK PLAY YET! If you are the first, second, or third person to connect, open up console and type "changeteam" then press enter. There can only be 4 players on a team.
  
  Example: With 8 players, the host joins the game normally (defaulting to the red team), players 2-5 type "changeteam blue" in console before joining, and players 6-8 join normally without typing anything in console (defaulting to the red team).
  
  
• That's it! Feel free to click play to join the hosts game. The players will be seperated into two teams, the red team (the host** & players 6, 7, & 8) and the blue team (players 2, 3, 4, & 5).

*YOU CANNOT HAVE MORE THAN 4 PEOPLE ON A TEAM OR EVERYONES GAME WILL CRASH
**THE HOST MUST STAY THE DEFAULT TEAM ELSE THEY MAY GET FROZEN IN PLACE
