This game has a ton of charm in it's visuals even considering it's sticking to a robotic theme, and after a bit of time the gameplay becomes clean as can be. It also has a new option to change up your crosshair position to give you a better view to what's above you; it seemed iffy at first but it's honestly a perfect fit for the pacing of the gunplay and enemy placements.

It deserves a lot more popularity than it currently has, and with future updates and a fair share of tweaking/cleanup this oughta be one of the most addictive Rougelike/FPS 's in a long time coming.

It's been said plenty of times but this game is such an amazing blend of inspirations from Wario Land [4], 2D Sonic Games, and bits of Metroid in there too.

If you enjoy any aspects of those games or are just looking for some exploration/collectathon goodness with fast paces in places, this is a must.

On top of that, the animation and spirtework is superbly done, the style is it's own beholder for the most part, and the music has held up well with the new/refined tracks being a blessing for this game.

If you can, set aside a good portion of a day to experience this one.
And set another day's worth to run down a really, really long hallway.

TLDR: If you played the original, give this a shot if you're dedicated (minus the multiplayer). If you want to play the game for the first time, play the original, not this.

Just to make it clear, this game isn't inherently bad, it's still good in it's own regard; hell, the original game was some of the best nostalgia aside. But to give my word, if you want the better experience in terms of throwbacks, references, smooth mechanics, and a distinct artstyle, I would absolutely recommend the original game over this.

The one thing this game does better than the predecessor without a doubt is the visual improvement, it's absolutely beautiful. If you played the original and want to see the visuals with new life, this can definitely serve.

Aside from that, this game feels as if it lost a lot of the charm found in the original; small details throughout the game seem to be missing the glory that they once had. You can't stay in the invisble boatmobile after it turns invisible, and Prawn isn't shown to be frozen at the end of his fight in the arena and on the screen, I mean come on! And what happened to the old timer sound for the cruise bubble? And man, I miss the old look for Robo-Sandy's eyes, the new ones just lack the intimidation of the fight, same with the camera being forced to look from the top-down, where the original had it from bottom-up; it made it seem like you were the lesser challenger that had to overcome!

And if it isn't those, it's the differences in some of the game mechanics that [may] get in the way. The bubble bowl just feels off with the camera focused on you and the longer duration of charging it (with no sound the longer you go). Sandy's lasso on the floating Texas symbols has less momentum buildup, and more of an immediate swing after a pause. Spongebob's wall jump has similar traits as well, with it being more immediate. Also, the camera is always behind you on sliding portions, and no more is the camera guided along your path.

...or gltiches (?)... Floating reticles every now and then, odd detection on some of the slide segments, and heck, you can't even refight the bosses as far as I'm concerned! You only get sent back to an EMPTY ARENA.) And don't get me started on some of the audio screwups every now and then, sometimes sounds just don't play, or they do play to the point where you can't hear dialogue clearly. Oh yeah, and being able to choose any location to go to in the beginning of the game with the right timing, even the final boss; 2 minutes of gameplay for a speedrun, but that may be patched soon.

As for the new multiplayer mode, it's very disappointing to see after the initial trailer. You have the Robo - Squidward, and all it does is loom around the islands, shooting small canisters for robots to come out of, and "attacks" you without a proper animation path or anything, just a danger area. I was hoping we could have some actual interaction with it aside from pressing a button and blowing up a tentacle, one by one. As for the characters, each one is limited to their basic attack, aerial attack, and slam; no fancy-schmancy stuff or anything. besides differences in jump height and walking speed, and you know... the characters themselves. And after 26 islands with 3 waves of robots each, what is your reward? Nothing really, just to gloat at whoever suffered less and got more shiny objects. At least they made a reference to the scrapped Patrick's dream for one of the islands? Anyways, the whole thing just feels "watered down," dare I say shoehorned in.

Still, if you REALLY want to play BFBB, I would urge you to play the original if possible, where the whole ride feels more established as a game. Rehydrated feels like a reimagination, a glorification of the original, with a multiplayer side mode for the fun of it.
