Disclaimer: I did not back the game at launch, nor have I played System Shock previously, so I am obviously going to have a different perspective than the hardcore fans.

This game is often described as a " Sci-Fi Dungeon Crawler". The closest modern equivalent I can think of is Resident evil. However, this game has a 1st person perspective and is deliberately disorienting. If you are not used to playing video games, pick the lower difficulties to limit the confusion (You can adjust different components of the difficulty, which is nice). The game has a ton of customization options and runs well with the right settings. I had lighting issues in certain areas near space, but that may have been cause by hardware limitations (I'm running this game on a mediocre laptop).

The combat can seem repetitive at first, but the game LOVES to surprise you with unexpected encounters, so best to be prepared and stay on your toes. Enemies will spawn in previously explored area as Shodan is always watching. I would recommend not scrapping anything until you need to in order to limit the amount of time you waste (If you're on mission difficulty 3, you will need every second you can get). It might feel at first that the game is giving you too much stuff, but all the resources you collect will be used eventually, especially if you mess up a lot (which I do...).

The game doesn't tell you where to go (unless you pick mission difficulty 1 this feature is currently bugged, so wait for an update :( ), so using audio/text logs to understand what to do is key. The game will often hide important details in the audio/text logs, so PAY ATTENTION. There are many mean tricks that the game will pull on you to prevent you from winning.

The puzzles are surprisingly engaging. You can skip them using a consumable you find later, but I haven't use one yet since I've had fun slowly working my way through the puzzles. Keep in mind that the game doesn't pause while doing puzzles, so maybe clear the area before doing puzzles.

The cyberspace minigames are 3D shoot em' ups that have no gravity. They can be a bit disorienting with your "character" constantly reorienting. They get surprisingly harder later on, and I even failed one. I think it took some HP from me? Either way, the penalty isn't too big and you can always try again.

Last thing to mention: If you choose mission difficulty 3, your character will be permanently killed if you died on a floor where you have yet to activate a reanimation machine. Trust me, you will know what the reanimation machine is when you see it.

Overall, a bit oldfashioned but I definitely see why people like this game!

Haven't played in a while, but here are my thoughts:

The gameplay is good and is a unique concept in general. However, constant powercreep and mediocre tutorials has resulted in the barrier to entry for new players being impossibly high. There is also a lot of grinding that is painful without premium account or a premium tank. Silver, XP, Crew Members, Equipment, and stock tank grinds make the game a slog.

This game has slowly become blatantly Pay to Win with the addition of new tanks like the defender. On top of that, you can no longer obtain the most overpowered tanks due to them being removed and Wargaming has refused to nerf them. Many tanks no longer have unique weaknesses and thus the hull-down meta has ruined competitive games since tanks with strong turrets don't have any real weaknesses to balance them. IMO premium tanks should focus on unique characteristics and should be slightly underpowered. Like how stock is very good in tf2, tech tree tanks should be the best ones.

RNG influences matches WAY too much. If I aim at a tank 300 meters away for 10 seconds, I should not miss 1/3rd of my shots. Penetration variation can result in some fights being won purely out of luck. And don't get me started on the matchmaker. RNG needs to be toned down.

This isn't including other issues like artillery, overpriced tanks, bad PR, premium consumables, RESELLING TANKS THAT WERE IN THE TECH TREE FOR GOLD, and the removal of fun light tanks like the old ELC AMX (my fav vehicle) and other fun light tanks. If you haven't played this before, don't. Wait until Wargaming makes a dramatic change to the new player experience. Then you can give it a shot. Maybe...

Early Access Review
This game is very moddable, features many customization features, and is going to receive more content over time. It also has a number of bugs as expected of an early access title. I would recommend this game outright, however, I cannot justify the $30 price tag considering the current state of the game. It feels a bit bare-bones at the moment, so I would buy this on sale or wait until full release. If you want to support the devs, you could simply donate to them directly so steam doesn't middle-man the profits. Even though it is an early access title, it has way less issues and much more content than a lot of AAA full releases (probably due to the low graphical fidelity).

This game is ultimately a recommendation, but not by a large margin. The gameplay loop of chasing is satisfying, but the buggy nature of some interactions combined with terrible dedicated servers (which are the butt of many jokes) can make some aspects of gameplay a bit frustrating. The ranked system is terrible at truly measuring skill, leading to a massive difficulty spike when reaching red ranks. This is even worse considering that ranked is the ONLY way to play in randoms. In my opinion, there should be a true random queue where you can go up against anybody and a ranked queue without survive with friends. The design behind killers receives a lot of negative comments, but I think that a lot of the killers (besides nurse, spirit, and clown) are well designed and fun to go up against. The gameplay balance at the moment is very survivor-sided, with perks like decisive and unbreakable oppressing most of higher ranks. The map design is sometimes terrible and can sometimes seem to not have any thought put into it (not to mention the absurd imbalances created by random generation). Worse than all of this though is the community themselves. They are often 'main' either killers or survivors. Since the gameplay is asymmetrical, they struggle to understand the other's argument and thus can end up being very entitled and toxic. However, this game offers a unique type of gameplay not seen anywhere else, so I have to recommend it. However, you should only buy this game if you have a cool head and can rise above the emergent toxicity

Old leatherface had issues with exerting pressure. His power was unwieldy and slowed him down a lot. He could perform some mindgames but that was all there was to him. The only reason you would buy him was for his perks. But now, after 4.1.0... he is one of the most lethal killers in the game. He is not the strongest killer by far, but he can chew through pallets and has much more flexibility when trying to mow down people. But most of all, he is now pretty damn fun to play! Just make sure not to run into any walls.

Not to say that his perks aren't worth noting; BBQ and Chili is a perk that you can't seem to go wrong with. It allows you to double the bloodpoints gained at the end of a trial and helps you to find survivors to chase. Knockout is also pretty nice. It lets you slug people very effectively, and it has only gotten stronger. The final perk, Franklin's Demise, has also gotten a fun rework. it allows you to force survivors to drop their items. If they don't pick the item back up quickly, the entity will consume it! I'm not sure how effective this perk really is, but it should allow you another avenue to exert pressure, especially on small maps.

If you want a super strong killer or a high mobility one, consider getting the shattered bloodline DLC instead or simply learning the nurse as it is completely free. However, if you want some really strong perks and a fun killer, consider picking this DLC up!
