Usually I try to be as detailed as possible, but in this case I am only here to answer your sole question as concisely as possible. Is this game worth it, for you?

If you love the show so much that you'd consider buying merchandise, then yes.
If you only enjoyed the English dub version of the show, then no.
If you enjoyed the show and are hoping for a sort of premium AAA visual novel that gives you more content from the show (this was me) then I'd give you a hard maybe, but refer to the next two parts before deciding.

If you are willing to work through lots of glitchy menial fluff in a relatively poor quality semi-3D world, then yes.
If you get bored easily or are expecting a "polished" experience throughout the whole thing, then no.

I genuinely hope this helps someone make an informed decision. I can't say I regret the purchase, because I took the time to 100% the game and seeing another adventure with some of my favorite characters from a show I really enjoyed made me very happy. With the menial work, bugs, and poorly designed sections included, was it all worth the payoff of the story? No probably not, but it is a decent game. If you can look past all that as a fan of the show, it is a good experience and a unique story.

Funny enough, you kind of have to be just as stubbornly determined as Akko, except with the goal of experiencing another story set in this universe, in order to make this purchase worth the price tag. Buy it on a sale and remember:

A game unlike anything I have ever played. If 2020 has affected you negatively like it has many, this is the antidote. Spiritfarer is the saving grace of the the start of this decade.

If anything, and I mean anything, about this game appeals to you... just buy it. Buy it right now like your life depends on it, don't think too hard about it, don't take price into account, just buy it. Hindsight is 20/20 and as someone who has worked for every penny I've ever spent, I can tell you with utmost confidence that I would pay the most heinous "Deluxe Gold Ultimate Super Mega Pre-Order Bundle" cost imaginable $120+ for the sort of experience this game has given me.

Buy Spiritfarer, get some snacks, and spend the next few evenings of alone time slowly appreciating one of the most phenomenal works of emotional & meaningful art in gaming.

If you took the time to read this, I hope you have an amazing rest of your day or night, stay positive because things will always get better eventually. Sometimes it just takes a masterpiece like Spiritfarer to remind you that life has a lot of fantastic things to experience.

• All the core qualities that make a great straightforward trinity-based tab target mmorpg?
- Yes.

• Rewarding endgame content for a wide variety of player types?
- Absolutely.

• Massive community of genuinely friendly and helpful people, and a surrounding culture that encourages respectful etiquette and minimizes negative factors while discouraging toxicity?
- Totally.

• A wide range of satisfying, unique, complex endgame class(job) identities with their own unique "feel" and playstyle?
- Unequivocally.

• A slower overall GCD that enables complex and rewarding rotations of far more abilities at endgame without being too overwhelming?
- Precisely.

• An inescapably addictive and colossally huge casino/arcade/entertainment-complex that you can go and waste away countless hundreds of hours in?
- The Gold Saucer, Yea.

• Chocobo Racing?
- YOU KNOW IT. "I want to ride my chocobo all day. I wanna see them run. I wanna ride and play! hey! I want to ride my chocobo all day. I wanna join the fun. 50 gil I’ll gladly pay! Yay!"

FFXIV is a fantastic mmorpg, an exceptional game, and a genuine work of art. There is no other game in my library of 1,000+ titles that I could give a higher recommendation or more heartfelt standing ovation to. The memories you create, experiences you have, and time you spend within Eorzea will be some of the best you can possibly have in gaming. I say that with utmost confidence, so just give the game a try and... pray return to the waking sands.

Reviewer: The game is a watered down skyrim, with quests that aren't worth your time, and a very boring storyline.
Me: *Plays Game*
Got my life saved by a pirate Khajiit, repayed him by helping him, ran into a ghost who had cursed daedric tomes that whispered to her, discovered the politics of Mistral, found out the Maormers stole a treaty, stopped a gigantic hurricane from within the eye of the storm, witnessed the murder of a good guy in the position of "The Silvenar", tracked down his assassin, let "The Silvenar"'s soulmate murder the guy who hired the assassin, found out there was a plot to wipe out the entire population of mistral through blood sacrifice and the energies of storm and wind, destroyed a gigantic storm atronach therefore saving an entire province from catastrophe, helped the captain of the guard keep the queen safe, got knocked out, got kidnapped, found out I was betrayed by a traitor within the queens circle, escaped prison, killed the traitor in an epic confrontation.

I can continue, or I can just hit "Yes" on this recommended button and strongly disagree with that reviewer. I choose the latter.
