What is there not to love about this game? You can do anything, be anyone you want, and not a single microtransaction in sight. Easily one of the best games of the decade so far

i used to have fun with this game, until this morning. where i got perma banned from this game for saying "gg" at the end of a match. Was mass reported by a 4 stack in comp and was banned the next day for abusive chat.

I have played overwatch since beta. i had every overwatch 1 skin, even pink mercy. countless hours played, and quite a bit of time into overwatch 2. All gone in an instant because i didn't rez enough as mercy in one game, and had the audacity to say "gg" at the end of the match, while my team told me to kms. Blizzard support is doing nothing to appeal this wrongful ban. yet are allowing people who spam racist and homophobic slurs in chat to continue to play without penalty. I even looked through the chat logs that led to my ban and they let me look back at everything i said the past week in game chat. Nothing but "gg" and one message that was different, "illari's so fun, what"

dont continue to support this horrible game. put your time elsewhere, lets leave this game to rot.

Oh VRChat...what happened?

This game was the first game I played in VR when I got my headset last year because all my friends were clamoring for me to play it. So I gave it a shot and genuinely enjoyed it! One of my favorite VR games of all time. I loved exploring all these community made worlds, hanging out with friends, finding new avatars to use, and overall just having a good time. And when I upgraded my PC more recently to be able to handle VR, I found even MORE community made content that I wasn't able to see before on Quest. I even dabbled in making my own avatar not too long ago, and I enjoyed watching it come to life.

Now with all this said..this game is on a very rapid downhill slope. And the cause of all this can be said in three letters.

EAC

EAC is a common anti cheat engine that is designed to stop cheaters in online multiplayer games. I understand what the devs were...trying to do? Kind of? But there's literally no stakes in VRC. No ranking system, no in game currency to exploit. So why add in anti cheat? To shut down mods that allowed the community to add features the devs refuse to add even after making full on PETITIONS to add. Make sense? Of course it doesn't.

Here's a few examples of mods that the VRC devs thought would be worth it to shut down.
Warning. What you are about to read may make you want to add an anti-cheat

  • TTS/STT for the deaf/hard of hearing
  • Portable Mirrors
  • Performance Enhancements (unlocked FPS)
  • Soundboards/Sound Effects
  • Added Linux compatibility

The game is super unstable now with this anticheat update, and I find myself unable to even start the game unless I jump through hoops to get on, and I don’t even have any mods on at all! I get consistently lower framerates, and the same issues that VRChat claimed to have “magically” fixed, are still an issue.

As of this new update, I can’t join friends unless I’m in a specific “Friends +” instance and I join them immediately after getting an invite, or else vrchat sends me to a random public instance. I know it’s just a bug, but this is the nail in the coffin for me. If I have to jump through this many hoops to get past a broken anticheat that shouldn’t even exist, just to join my friends? Its better for all of us to just go elsewhere.

EAC is the easiest anticheat engine to bypass. This has done NOTHING to the game, besides make everyone jump ship to other experiences like ChilloutVR. Which is what I’ll do. DO NOT continue to support this dying game that doesn’t care about its community. Facebook Meta has already shown interest in the game and it’s most likely what contributed to this haphazard update. To potentially try and make the game "look good" for Meta. Who potentially wants to buy out the game in favor of their terrible “Horizon Worlds metaverse” that flopped. The devs clearly don't care about this community, because they would rather add a broken anticheat to the game than add these crucial quality of life updates to the game. If they added all these helpful mods as features ALONG with the anticheat update, I think we would all be happier with the state of the game.

VRChat was the true metaverse, we had something great going here. A thriving community with amazing, talented artists and creators of all kinds. As much as I hate to say this, no matter what they do, the damage is already done.

Good job VRChat. You killed your game.
