This is an incredible game and I strongly recommend anyone looking for a serious challenge in the context of city building/management to give this one a try.

Before playing this, I never played any kind of city builder game - it really was like being thrown in the deep end. For the first few days, you've got a stockpile of coal, wood and steel to rely on to build the most basic buildings. After that it's a constant struggle to ensure that resources are not depleted, your people do not starve and that you develop the city to accommodate for much colder temperatures. Politics also plays a key role as people will oppose some of your laws (which you have to enact as everyone would otherwise die) and you have to keep them content or you will be deposed.

A lot to unravel and definitely worth your buy.

This game is amazing, from start to finish, in almost any aspect. Do I recommend it? Absolutely. Worth every dollar.

The story grips you from the start - good outcomes and endings leave you smiling and warm inside, while bad ones, especially deaths, leave you sunken and truly upset. The only other game which I could say was just as impactful emotionally was The Walking Dead Game - Season 1, and that speaks for itself.

The graphics are gorgeous; I myself run a mid-tier 2020 gaming PC with all AMD specs, and had no issue running this game at high settings. There were some very minor (but funny) graphical hiccups, but these in no way impacted gameplay and is probably caused by the fact that this is a PC port from the PS4 version.

Gameplay feels immersive with awesome, gripping music in almost every scene. The attention to detail, and the sheer number of outcomes to explore in this game is simply phenomenal and among the best I've seen in a video game. The story is set in the future, but it feels absolutely realistic and definitely not like some gaudy 90s sci-fi movie.

This game is easily one of my all-time favourites. If you have decent/good specs to enjoy the awesome graphics, BUY. If not, well, still BUY. The story on its own is already enough to justify getting the game.

Picture this - you land on a house in the middle of nowhere. You spend ages looting, upgrading your gear, maxing out your armor and collecting as many healing items as possible. Minutes pass as the zone closes in. More and more people kill each other as you run along the edge of the zone. Just as you feel that you might have a shot of winning this thing, you hear a "pft" sound as you fall on the ground. Game over. You have been sniped by some Chinese dude on the other end of the zone.

Other than that it's quite fun though

Initially, the game was very interesting with a storyline that forces the player to succumb to the typical, gradual corruption of a law enforcement unit.

However, the game gradually drags the player along, to the point that you get bored. Not to mention, the endings are absolutely horrible - it's a lose-lose scenario, and the game didn't hook me enough for me to get to them on my own (looked at a video online).

Before I bought this game, I was really wondering whether I was just stuffing more money down the drain. Turns out I wasn't. I could say this was the most constructive and thoughtful four hours I have spent completing a game on Steam.

This is one of the few games which make you think. How could Orwell work in a real life environment? What if Orwell was inspected by a unbiased individual? As you can see, the game has also managed to create a direct link to security forces in real life. They spark thoughts and theories about how Orwell could work or not; and whether the public (in said real life) would approve of the system.

Theories aside, let me move on to my pros and cons before I bore all of you scrollers:
Pros
  • Very dynamic storyline, with multiple possible endings and sub-endings
  • The game makes you regret doing things which you're not meant to do, such as ignoring datachunks, especially when it's about not letting a suspect escape except for initiate's pug profile pic, that's an exception
  • Keeps the game interesting at all times; there is no drop of tension except for the end of a chapter

Cons ; some spoilers ahead!
  • The story ended a bit too early for my liking; I would have liked to research more about Thought and initiate (Themba) to really clear up gaps of knowledge
  • There could have been a cinematic at the end, just like there was in the beginning - instead of four zoomed in TNB articles.
  • Unable to do anything in the epilogue of the game if you click anywhere except for what you're supposed to do.

All in all, a great game. If you're in the process of thinking "will I regret it?", rest assured that all you will possibly regret is having finished the game too quickly.
