ten whole dollars for a singular, okay 15 minute heist. for a funny reference, a $3 to $6 dollar heist in payday 2 usually got you a weapon, some masks, and a few achievements along with either a nice, sizeable heist or a few smaller/multi-day ones. at least before Starbreeze got caught insider trading.

generalizing from a review i saw somewhere regarding chivalry 1, but melee slashers like these have a rough expiry date. the natural tendency of a dedicated swordplay gamer is to break and abuse the system as much as humanly possible to gain as much of an advantage as humanly possible

it takes a few years for the community as a whole to discover and pick up these exploits (and general skill), at which rate the game inches towards its expiration. the sweatiest of players dominate, the higher skill players begin to feel tedium, the middling skill players start to get frustrated, and the lowest skill players feel compelled to quit entirely

going further on from this point, these sentiments shift up from each rung of skill, stagnating the growth of middle and high class players and shutting off more and more of the general playerbase. there's no big dramatic event or public outcry that kills a game like this, but a slow and eventual rot

i absolutely loved mordhau, but it's almost an entirely different experience now. if you don't have the time and patience needed to treat learning mordhau like learning an actual art or skill, it's barely worth it. even still, the exploit riddled highest tier techniques in the endgame have already driven away many of the greatest, most well known players

i might just have a skill issue though 🤷
