It's incredibly hard to progress in this game - the difficulty curve is through the roof. I've recently tried this game again on the deck and the game feels much more sluggish than I remember, all actions are delayed, plus there's no cloud save. Of the 5 years I've played this game, I was never able to progress pass the third level and my unlocks kept getting reset. And some point you think to yourself, if they didn't even try to make the learning part fun, why should I endure the same thing over and over again? I used to suck at Enter the Gungeon too, but I got to have fun sucking and eventually got better, but I think I'll be forever stuck at less than 4 hours of play time for this game. This game is not for everyone.

An incredibly well made game full of interesting details to discover along with a great story that will leave a mark in your heart. All of its greatness is concentrated into a little more than 3 hours of play time, meaning that you can (and frankly, should) finish within one sitting which makes the overall experience that much more immersive. This is one of the few games I’ve finished in my gaming portfolio and I urge anyone to play this game over watching whatever commercial film comes out next.

Plays great on a deck, arguably better than on a desktop.

Id Software actively hunts down anything with the word Doom in its name. RIP Doomscroll.

Crashes way too often for a game that autosaves once in over an hour. Also, this graphical revamp is just that - the underlying systems remain unchanged, meaning that while the game holds your hand through the first hour or so, it is still incredibly difficult and frustrating to get into the game if you're new. Its UI has barely gotten any more usable and its complexity and details still can't be fully appreciated - I'm sure some of us prefer a simple "bleeding on left arm and is crying" status instead of a full screen worth of detailed list of all body parts on the creature. To add salt to injury, the original keybinds won't work for every menus either. Moving your camera around still feels clunky and disorienting, not to mention the many glitches here and there that add up to an overall barely satisfactory experience.

It is definitely not a game for everyone. I would only recommend this game to anyone who already love playing the classic version, but if that's the case for you, there are some great but not a whole lot of reasons to play this version instead. Rimworld would be the much better experience if you like what dwarf fortress is about but can't bear it's flaws. By the way. check bandcamp before you buy the OST DLC.

Just as an example of overly detailed (read unhelpful) information without UX in mind, I'll quote directly from the game an examination of a pile of bones as one of the 40+ spam notifications I get for each minute I play, letter to letter except for the weight and value units which are coloured yellow in game.

What you've heard about this game, the crashes, the graphical glitches, the match making, no community servers, third party launcher and anti-cheat, no tutorial level, crappy animations, bullets travel at 150m/s, and the overly arcady (read cod) combat... it's all true. There are throwing knifes in this game ffs, and the game does not show polish nor replayability - there's no single player, no lore, and I've seen it all after 6 hours of online play.

Despite all this, if you don't take the game too seriously, there's some fun to be had for you and your buddies. The 1942-esque music is a plus for sure. But when you factor in the fact that this game is not free to play, I just can't see it as a reasonable purchase for most people.

It hurts me badly that I cannot progress past the first level simply due to my network connectivity being garbage. They say that they have no plans of shutting down their server but really, that's not the issue here. The question is, why can I not play a single player game without internet connection, and what's gonna happen to our games when you DO decide it's time to stop maintaining your server?

Gameplay is unique and I've had a lot of fun in this game, but in exchange you need to prepare for frequent crashes, memory leaks, and subsequently BSOD. What you'll also notice in game is a lot of abrupt animations, and your character model will clip through anything in front of it.

There's quite literally nothing good I can say about this game, but now I simply wish to leave a negative review, nothing more. At 20 minutes in I said to myself, maybe it really is fun, it could be that one game both me and my partner will enjoy. I'll just have to push myself a little further. I really regret thinking that. If you're curious about this game, download it while it's free, and remember not to hesitate to uninstall the game.

Early Access Review
Please stop trying to port to v3, stick with the old graphical style so you can actually add content to the game. There's really no reason for v3, it looks worse and runs worse, and seemingly nothing is being ported in a reasonable amount of time.
