Early Access Review
Too early access to be worth any price, even on sale. Sorry guys. Its just so... bland, rough, unpolished, and the UI and all its components look like they were made in Microsoft Paint.

I really, really want to love this game, but it needs a bit of TLC.

Objectives are repetitive and in some maps, unclear. You sink a large amount of time into doing the same task over, and over, and over, and over a dozen times, giving it no repeatability and making it tiresome. Additionally, the time frames are really tight, which I guess is good if you're an experienced player, but utterly unforgiving for new players. Solo play is pretty much impossible, even hosting a game for two makes it drag with repetitive mechanics.

Five years old and it still has frozen UI/chest bugs and no stack splitting. C'mon....

Well-polished, but there's a few things I have major gripes with.

Character creation is very minimal. You work off of a few restrictive templates and can hardly distinguish your character from others with only hair to adjust. All body types are burly. There's over 20 hairstyles, but the vast majority of them are the same boring ponytail with slightly different bangs. This wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for that with third person view, you see your boring and drab character your entire playthrough.

The crafting tab is a nightmare to navigate. Clicking on a category of crafting does not jump to it, nor expand/collapse it, it just highlights. All recipes/blueprints are always expanded, making navigating it a nightmare.

Melee strikes can be used against enemies or objects to break them. Unfortunately, your character swings their arms around like a toddler, stumbling forward. This makes it unnecessarily difficult to break objects as you're constantly repositioning. You can only strike at arm level, you can't strike down or up, which is limiting when you're trying to break objects and very frustrating.

If these things were improved upon I'd give the game another go, but until then I have other games that feel better at these aspects. ESPECIALLY the clunky, forward-bumbling melee strikes. That was the big breaker for me.

Can't recommend this enough. Nightingale turns the survival genre on its head by providing an interesting story, clever dialog, in-depth character customization, and complex crafting opportunities. It's lacking a bit of polish and the servers are VERY unstable, but I've been absolutely obsessed with this game since its early access release and can't put it down. Beautiful biomes, immersive SFX, interesting enemies that keep you on your toes. The ranged weapon shooting even feels good. I'm really thrilled to see what this studio has in store for Nightingale's future!

Almost forgot; this is online-only, and once you break through a certain point in the storyline, you quickly discover why. It's very MMO-esque, which is strange as you can play solo for over a hundred hours with no trouble. I'm curious how the upcoming offline feature will turn out.
