great game, I just couldn't put it down, 100%'d it in one session. It's a sandbox game with some lite collect-a-thon elements that's a lot like The Simpsons Hit and Run, with a ton of original ideas and immaculate vibes. It made me laugh outloud numerous times. There's even a bit that reminded me of Yakuza Kiwami, where they give you a rival that can approach you on the street if they see you.

I really can't think of a flaw in this game that could get in the way of enjoying it, I played it when I wasn't feeling so good, and it really helped. Thank you dev, I'll check out Wuppo next.

Pros:
+do crime
+explore the small-but-detailed open world
+funny
+lots of interactivity

cons:
-the driving is almost completely lifted from Simpsons Hit and Run, I know some people don't like how driving handles there, and those people probably won't like how it handles here.

Early Access Review
Loved this game... I didn't expect the ending to hit that hard, but it did. Thank you dev for this amazing game, and for all the hard work!!

beautiful first impression, feels like a game that was made for me, I want to savour every second playing it.
Like a Love-de-Lic game, with all the right vibes, and tons of charm.

This game is far faar more polished than what you may assume from the screenshots.

Must play.

All games by Yeo are gems in a sea of mediocrity and should be played immediately, this one is quite possibly his magnum opus, and arguably the most accessible since the tutorial goes a bit more in-depth.

THIS REVIEW HAS BEEN UPDATED** since writing this review, I've played this game extensively, and now I mostly love it, but a lot of the things I originally criticized never left the back of my head. I'll leave the original negative review below (17 hours in), plus a new addendum to conclude my current thoughts of the game (90 hours in).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

never imagined I'd be doing this for a fromsoft game, but you should at least check your expectations before getting this game.

People criticize it because it feels like "armored souls" but that's just not true for me, what makes me unable to put a souls game down is the exploration; curiosity would always be rewarded with new equipment, bosses and sidequests, but that's not present here.

In fact, even though I've preordered and looked forward to this game for so long, I can't stay motivated to play for long sessions, the game likes to have these 'twists' at the end of most of it's missions where the difficulty spikes up (the so-called 'souls influence' that I don't agree with), but while I usually crave for those moments here it just makes me sigh. It's gotten so bad that I now dread the moment I have to pick the next mission, always prioritizing the seemingly short ones, so my playing experience becomes >hop on mission >bee line towards objective >use the same boring build to finish asap >repeat ad nauseam.

I've played AC before, and none of this used to be a problem. It's not that I wanted a more 'souls' game, it's that I wanted more of what *fromsoft* is now known for best. There's some of it, but not enough to do it for me.

Funnily enough a lot of stale gaming tropes *did* make the cut like sneaking missions with instant fail conditions, back to back cutscenes made up entirely of text + voiceover, intrusive tutorials that pause the flow of the game, over reliance on objective markers, grinding easy missions to buy parts at the shop...

I hate comparing, especially since I really do think this is a good title, a great title even, but to be brutally honest this is just the weakest fromsoft game I've played since Dark Souls 2, I was hoping to get lost in it but I feel like I'm playing mostly out of obligation...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT** 70 extra hours later, I fell in love with the game, and it's almost entirely because of it's story and setpieces. A lot of the cutscenes still consisted of just disembodied voices, but as soon as I got invested, it didn't matter anymore.
I want to take back my original point about being unable to get lost in the game, I mean, 90 hours in? obviously...

But I'd be lying if I said the gameplay didn't feel repetitive... I'd usually try experimenting with builds just to end up defaulting to the tried and true build that got me through the entire game. Missions rarely take over 5 minutes to beat, but even then there were a handful of missions that I just wanted to skip during NG+ and beyond. At points I still felt like I was playing out of obligation just to make it to the end.

The point regarding the typical fromsoft exploration being absent also needs correcting, there ended up being a certain degree of satisfying exploration, but more importantly, this game is above all *not* a souls game, and so it's an unfair comparison to make, I enjoyed it for what it was, and the high points will stay with me for a while.
