What a strange and amusing rollercoaster of a game!

You Will Die Here Tonight is an indie, Resident Evil-like horror game, played from a top-down perspective. You play as 6 members of a special forces team called ARIES, obviously inspired by RE's STARS. And like their first game, your mission is to investigate a mysterious mansion filled with traps, zombies, and oversized spiders. Gameplay is similar, you will have to explore the mansion to find items needed to progress, and can only save at a lamp. But the story is more than it seems.

What makes this game unique, is firstly the combat. Unlike RE's automatic aim and shoot, entering combat will bring your character to a first-person view (but you cannot move) and fight the enemies from that perspective. Secondly, it's a roguelike game, where if you die, you'll have to continue as any of the remaining characters. Key items stay, but you can loot your teammates' corpses for ammo and healing items. And each character has a different ability, like how Ashley can make medkits, Eric can upgrade weapons, and how the bulkier characters can deal and take more damage but move slower.

To properly finish the game, you'll have to play it more than once, and you'll get a new objective clue for subsequent runs from the KRKN computer. But it's not a big deal, since the game itself is short, and you actually keep your equipment, which makes later runs easier, faster, and more fun. It's also not too difficult, and you can actually revive your whole team if you have found K Coins. If you're into Resident Evil games, especially the early ones, you should definitely try this title.

It's all right. Mixes a few genres. Has permadeath but also has scripted deaths for some reason. But you can continue? Graphics are retro so no problems running it. Has a decent art style. Combat vs normal enemies is serviceable. Bosses are meat shields who do not regenerate health between encounters. So you can just throw your characters at them until they die. I had fun with it for the most part. If it had like one more annoying thing I would have given it a thumbs down.
