This game is not a roguelike. It's almost the antithesis to roguelikes, in that the player starts off almost entirely powerless and gets significant permanent upgrades, unlocks, and abilities, after each death. A roguelike gives the same exact advantages to the player on playthrough number 1 as it does playthrough 10,000 - while in this game you're required to play 10 (or more!) runs in a row before you actually have ANY chance of real progression. Anyone looking for an actual roguelike should absolutely skip this.

I'm very annoyed that the developer would include the word 'roguelike' in the description; if this game wasn't free then that would be such a major mis-categorization as to justify a false advertising lawsuit.

The developer has changed 'roguelike' to 'roguelite' which is the correct term, so that's no longer an issue. My complaint about required grinding is still true but some people do enjoy that format of game; it's just not my cup of tea.

This game is incredibly broken, even for the price of free it wouldn't be worth playing. The entire story is contained inside of terminal entries, but there is a random chance that reading any of these terminal entries will prevent you from closing the terminal and being able to continue playing. Coupled with the fact that the developers decided there would be NO AUTOSAVES AT ALL, this means that any run can potentially be destroyed by the simple act of a spacebar press. The developers have completely abandoned the game. If you're going to try it, please leave a negative review when it breaks and you uninstall it to at least save someone from wasting their time and money.

Runs great on low end hardware (intel 4600 iGPU), and it also works flawlessly on Linux. insanely fun game; well worth full price.
I beat the game very easily on "I can take it," the normal difficulty. Unless you're an FPS casual, then stick to Ciero Miedo. Duskmare only if you wish DOOM was a roguelike.

Early Access Review
absolutely broken game, can't even load into the singleplayer or access any previous saves. Apparently the game runs a local server on your computer, but can't even connect to said server. Several dozen other people have had this problem for years and the developer has offered essentially no fixes. Absolutely do not buy, the game does not even function. Spent hours trying to fix these problems following every suggestion to no avail and now I can't refund this shibtucket of a game

Outside of the issues I have with the developers of this game firing their genius audio technician, musician and sound designer because of his political opinion, this game is still extremely un-optomized for a full release game. Runs like what you would expect from an early alpha game, with plenty of random frame drops and heavy lagspikes when loading environment. The game looks nice at max graphical settings, but it doesn't run nice. When you cut the settings back it looks more like an ameteurish unity game, and still doesn't run entirely smooth. Accompanying the unstability is a myriad of bugs (most of which aren't game breaking, but extremely jarring).

I stopped playing a long time ago because of the issues with running the game on anything but top-of-the-line hardware, but didn't have the heart to give it a negative review because it was still early access. Now that the game has fully released while still having these problems - and the devs publicly chose political correctness over quality sound design - I have no qualms reccommending against it. If you want a gorgeous underwater experience get Abzu (that one has actually functional VR too!) and if you want the survival element I would reccommend The Long Dark, which has a surprisingly similar atmosphere.

Gnomes are run by AI with no direct player input. Needless to say, unlike dwarves these gnomes are complete idiots.
