Early Access Review
I really want to like this game, but in its current state it's basically unplayable. the raccoon itself moves at a snails pace, it's full of bugs, and the multiplayer is incredibly barebones (to the point of being pointless)

The game is cute, and it has potential, but it's really not even close to a finished product and I wouldn't pay for what is (at the time of writing) basically just a pay-in playtest for the dev team to figure out what's wrong (and they aren't exactly speed demons on resolving issues that currently exist).

I will say, it's cute, and could be funny if the game was more functional

It's a good game, overall. I like the story and the choices feel like they have weight most of the time, even if the macro story isn't changed too much the micro story and the flavor therein is vastly different based on your choices, and not to spoil anything but it does affect the end of the story depending on what choices you make.

I will say it falls victim to some of the tropes of it's genre of game sometimes though; not every dialogue option seems to be exactly what you're trying to say. That is, sometimes you might pick a dialogue tree option and think you're well meaning, but the character will be a complete jag about saying the actual dialogue. This doesn't break the game but it is a hindrance on the experience in my opinion.

As for a new take on gameplay from LiS 1 you now play superpower adjacent - the player character isn't the one with the power this time out, and it's an interesting new take on games like this. But I don't know if I wouldn't have been more into playing as the character with the superpower itself. Which could be by design, seeing as Sean would probably often want to have daniels powers pretty often.

Daniel Feels like a real child too, not overly immature, nor like he is a weathered old soul. It does feel like the devs had a good feel for what interacting with a real child is like.

Overall I'd give the game a 4/5. It isn't the game that LiS 1 is, and I didn't expect it to fill that void, but it is a good media in and of itself. If you can get it on sale, I'd recommend giving it a shot.

Before I get into it, I'm doing a blanket review on the page for episode 1 for the whole of episodes 1-5, without spoilers. Just for the sake of time right now.

This game quickly jumped into my list of media that I'll always be a fan of. I loved the feeling of Arcadia Bay, the soundtrack is worth what you'd pay for the whole game itself, the art is amazing (although it being as old as it is, it does have some issues at times with character models, but fairly seldom). And. The. Story. Is. Wonderful.

The game will be presenting you with many hard choices, and some of them are derivative of very real trauma. I cried playing this game quite a few times. But it also presents you with characters to identify with, people who have complex lives and flaws even though they are incredibly likable.

The core mechanic of the game, being able to rewind time, is also really refreshing in the story based games genre. (a-la telltale games) The choices you do finalize are meaningful and it really seems to affect the story. While some big beats are set in stone, you do make choices in this game that will affect both the small and large scale stories.

I cannot gush enough about this game. A++, great job.

It doesn't feel like Life is Strange, gameplay wise. Let me get that out of the way immediately. The core mechanic of the game is that Chloe is especially good at arguing and can insult/talk her way in or out of situations.

I didn't hate the choices but I did reload checkpoints enough times to find that the game will at times completely disregard literally any choice you make. Maybe I didn't pick up the right item, maybe I didn't make the right choice a ways back, but I can't help but feel way more confined to my fate than the original game, and while that wasn't always a bad thing considering the changes in premise of the main LiS game, this felt a lot closer to the Telltale Formula™ at times.

But despite my gripes, I really did love this game. It fleshed out a lot of the world of Life is Strange. When I played the main game, I could tell that the devs did have a world that was "lived in". The world felt like they had more answers than they had the chance to give, more story behind the one we were being told as Max. This game is a lot more of that story.

This is a great game, I'd recommend it to anyone that loved the main game of Life is Strange. And I recommend Life Is Strange to everyone.

And if you haven't played the main game, do that first because I have a feeling you'll be at least a little bit lost in this prequel if you don't.

Great game, I keep coming back to it again and again. Don't forget to check the workshop too, it's a good way to keep it interesting and counter intuitive.
